DA40 TDI Range?

Does anyone know the range for the DA 40 TDI. Did find a number of 741nm, at 60%, but is this number with or without the 45 min extra fuel?

What is the range at 70% power setting?

Kindest Regards,

Erik:)

At 70% you're using 5.6 gph at 116 KIAS and the tanks hold 28 USG. That gives you 5 hours, if you don't mind running on vapour at the end.

From the Diamond Factsheet below:

With standard tanks 741nm
With long range tanks 1,083nm

At 10,000 feet.

I believe this is without reserves.

About 2 hours depending on your bladder?

Very few DA40 TDIs have that option, because it severely limits the useful load. It's much more common with the gas-guzzling, but lighter, Lycoming engines.

As you observed, the quoted ranges are at 10,000 ft, but you'd struggle to fly any distance at that altitude in Western Europe without busting airspace.

Last summer, I flew a DA40TDI 390 nm from Avignon to Caen in 3.25 hrs, mostly at flight level 65. Fuel used was 21 usg and no oil. In UK motoring terms, that's a ground speed of 138 mph at 25 mpg. :)

Thanks for all answers. Witch flightlevel is most efficient? :)

Busting airspace ? With a well equipped aircraft like the DA40 don't you just file a flight plan and fly through it ?

Not if the aircraft is better equipped than the pilot! My IMCR is not valid in class A.

Find a nice tailwind, reduce to 55% and you can go a looooooooong way burning 3.5usg/hr.
