Hampshire Microlight Club

Hi there,

I am shortly moving to East Hampshire, and my local airfield is Colemore Common. I am interested in converting my CAA PPL into a Microlight licence, and have attempted to contact the club via email on their website, text message to the quoted phone number, and a voicemail left on the same number. Nobody has bothered to get back to me. Does anyone out there have an alternative means of contacting the club? Thanks

I don't but have flown microlights down that way a lot.

Hampshire Microlight Club is basically a friendly association of private owners across a few strips. So, don't expect great things - but equally don't give up trying to contact them. But, for instructors and club aircraft you're better trying Popham or Old Sarum.

Also look at Chilbolton - a reasonably healthy club on a single site near Andover. Agsin howevever all aircraft again are privately owned and any instruction is from a couple of local freelancers.

The club is very active and there are a number of members who are instructors.
I am guessing that you will be going 3 axis and can recommend an instructor and examiner based at Old Sarum who is well respected and instructs on the C-42.
Welcome to the area.
Club nights are on the first Tuesday of the month at the White Horse pub.

I'll PM you should you need further details.

An alternative for you

Welcome

A professional but very friendly organisation. They operate from inside the Class D Southampton Control Zone. If you have any apprehension about flying in controlled airspace, these guys will help you overcome it. So much easier to be able to often fly a direct track, rather than fly around Class D airspace, especially at C42 speeds!

Airbourne Aviation at Popham

I converted my PPL to microlight at Airbourne Aviation at Popham - I went there after a bit of research as it was easy to get to for me, plus they have several instructors and an examiner. After getting the microlight licence, it's easy to rent their planes (C42's and Eurostar) and it's a great club! :ok:

You can find Airbourne here: Home Page - Airbourne Aviation

Phoenix Aviation have a brand new C42 and can do this. Based at Lee on Solent. It's a quiet airfield on the coast with a nice long hard runway (not that you need it in a C42)!
PM me if you like.

Can highly recommend Phoenix Aviation at Lee too, over Solent Flight infact (have been a member of both and sadly I would now strongly discourage people from going to SF, but thats another story…).
Brand spanking new C42 (and a fleet of PA28's), very professional and friendly team and a really great airfield to fly from. And very reasonable hire rates too.

If you want to fly from a particular airfield, the best way to get a foot in the door must be to chose an instructor associated with that airfield, no?
