Nose Gear Mirror to 182RG
having suffered a nose gear failure in our 182RG and the associated catastrophic results, we're considering installing a mirror to provide a bit of belt and braces backup.
Google isn't coming up with much. Does anyone know of a source ? |
See my second photo here:
Trips & Airports - San Francisco to Toronto, C 182RG I'll be flying the plane again in a couple of weeks, and will review the logs to see if I can determine where it came from. In the mean time, you can search the mirrors used on Cessna amphibious floatplanes, it'll be the same thing. It is better mounted further outboard that the strut for a better angle of view. They've ordered mirrors for the 182 amphib I'll be flight testing in two weeks, I'll know then where they come from, if I've not been back to the 182RG yet... |
The C210 I've flown has a mirror mounted on an underwing inspection panel, good to be able to see the gear...Think it was an STC add-on. Maybe it will fit a 182RG as well?
Here it is... |
'Chuffer' - many thanks for finding that, not much info on their website but Ive sent them an email.
Pilot_DAR - many thanks, would still be good to know who supplied them as choice is always a good thing. Suspect primary issue might be whether they have an EASA STC. |
I wouldn't bother to spend money with an EASA STC just fit it to a spare inspection panel and when the a/c is in for inspection refit the original panel. Problem solved.
It certainly gives you peace of mind. |
I think Wilco do indeed have an STC 182RG mirror. I found this aircraft up for sale which has them. Looks like there is a mirror strapped onto the right wing strut.
Cessna TR182 For Sale Turbo 182RG - photowoz's Photos I think this might be the part number - SA2790CE. I did have a look at putting mirrors on my 182RG after I met some Cardinal owners in a bar (never a good thing to do - and don't ever talk to them about squat switches). However, my nosewheel gives such a big clunk when it locks up or down I am not left in much doubt as to where it is. After your incident however, I can imagine why you'd want to do it. |
