As for R/T, the issue could be something to do with language competency?? After all, EASA requires you to have a certain competency noted. If your PPL had expired, you didn't have the Level 4 added to your licence hence needing to redo the whole R/T. |
my ppl is pre jar caa ppl A were for life . nothing to do with the ratings , it not been used as a licence since the 1970,s, i used PPL privilages of my commercial ,, i am a native english speaker ,and this is not the issue?the ppl has not expired this is my question; where as to renew on my expired proffesional licence this has expired with the associated R/T licence hence my question
72 posts in 5 years , you got 71 am looking for advice not synism o sorry 4 years before you pick up on that just plain advice asked . help from a fellowship of Aviators im not familiar with the Troll call i don't hang out here . usually only nostalgia /pc posts with ref to LHR etc just saying my r/t competence should still be o.k and is this a money gathering process of either the flight school or CAA |
Steve6443, before calling troll maybe know the facts yourself, UK PPL's were indeed valid for life pre JAA, also not all class ratings are valid for 2 years, MEP for one is only 1 year.

Steve6443, you are incorrect as mcgoo has pointed out.
Much2much, I am not 100% sure about the FRTOL but a Google search suggests that if your FRTOL was issued prior to your CPL then your FRTOL would have been replaced when you obtained your CPL and would have had an expiry date similar to your CPL. If your CPL has now expired then so will your FRTOL. Take a look at http://www.pprune.org/flying-instruc...-validity.html |
yes thanks very much ,i thought so much but was trying to renew on the strength of my old UK PPL A which has a r/t licence; to avoid this issue , i guess what will be will
i just read whoppitys post after your reply; Caa advised me my PPL 101**/a is still valid, ill check again , or it.s cap 413 and a couple of hundred quid, just the sort of thing thats keeped me away from renewing my non FAA licence , any how thanks again wb 9999 for the positive link |
Old type rt licences lapse if not used for 10 years. If it's been more than 10 years, you will need to do the written & practical tests.

ok tar the man at the flight school said they lapse after 5 years either way i,m stuffed

The FRTOL had a 10 year validity as defined in the ANO Schedule 7. Renewal requirements were published in LASORS and if the licence had not been used for 10 years the applicant was required to resit the tests. As the licence was reissued free of charge it did little to help anyones pension fund.
As of 2012 the requirements are in CAP804 which state: 3.5 FRTOL Validity Stand alone UK FRTOL issued before 17 September 2012, had a ten year validity. When these licences expire, if the holder still requires to hold an FRTOL, they must complete form SRG 1106 and pay the appropriate fee. A UK FRTOL issued after 17 September 2012, does not expire, but it is not valid unless the holder has language proficiency in English at Level 6, or at Level 4 or 5 that has not expired. |
