Closure threat to Shoreham's (EGKA) runways

This is an important thread on another forum: Shoreham.Potential permanent closure of Runways & Taxiway!!

This is the first post:

A Draft Local Plan has been issued by Adur District Council for consultation which is a cause for concern for the future of Shoreham Airport.
Part of the illustrated areas for development include a section of the airport to the East, which, if granted planning permission, would prevent the use and close runways 25/07 and 13/31 and also taxiway Kilo. This could then cause further financial problems for the airport and eventually lead to the very sad closure of Shoreham Airport and it becoming an industrial/housing estate.
At this stage the plan is issued for consultation so it is vital that as many people as possible make their feelings known. It is especially important that anyone resident in the Adur District Council area make their point and I suggest copying in your local councilor.

We have, potentially, a very serious situation within the Plan, which you can see by clicking on this link: Draft Adur Local Plan 2012 Consultation - Adur & Worthing Councils

The proposals concerning Shoreham Airport are on pages 61 – 65.

It is also vital that individuals make their feelings known. You have until 5pm on the 31st October to make your representation. Please write to:

Planning Policy Team,
Adur Civic Centre,
Ham Road,
Shoreham-by-Sea,
BN43 6PR

Or email:- [email protected]

There is a public meeting with the local MP Tim Loughton on Saturday 27 October at 1400 in “Lancing Parish Hall” to discuss the Plan. Why go to the meeting and express your opinion?

Re. Adur District Council proposed local plan

We would like to invite you to a meeting on Wednesday 24th October in the Pashley room situated on the ground floor in the main terminal building. Ric Belfield (Airport General Manager) and Geoff Egan (Albemarle Managing Partner) will be in attendance to answer any questions you may have.
The meeting will begin at 10.30 and last approximately an hour, we hope you will be able to attend.

Reminds me a little bit about my local aerodrome, Redhill.

The owners want to put a hard runway and keep adjusting the plans to please some, however it keeps getting declined, I bet if the owners then changed their minds and wanted to build an industrial or housing estate it would get approval very quick.

If this continues at this rate, there will be no GA left. :*

I keep mentioning this, but local residents need to see the value GA adds to their community. This is key to preserving and growing any airport.

Local residents, even ones who don't like the noise still want shm to remain an open space. All the development that has happened over the last thirty years is regarded as an eyesore. I am grateful to the op for drawing attention to this.
