Airquiz vs PPL Cruiser?
 

Hi all :)

I've been studying for the written tests recently, a lack of funds has limited my airtime so just trying to work towards something in the meantime.

I have been using the Oxford Aviation CBT DVDs to study (I'm an absolute useless reader.. I manage half a page and find myself procrastinating), however the self assessment questions aren't the best from what I have seen.

I have come across Airquiz and PPL Cruiser searching the forums and wondered if anyone could shed any light on which one is better (if either)?

Airquiz is excellent. It works really well, is inexpensive and the questions are regularly updated.

Also, and this is a big plus, they don't make spammy posts on multiple aviation fora to promote their product...

Spamming aside (and I think it was a one-off?) I found PPLCruiser massively valuable in both helping me prepare for the specific exam questions and in assisting with my learning / consolidation of the course material. For the last few exams I actually used PPLCruiser before reading the book, which certainly worked well for me.

I can't compare PPLCruiser to Airquiz, but the instant feedback and detailed explanations in PPLCruiser make it well worth the money IMHO. You can tell the additional material was written by an FI and there were some gems I'd not heard elsewhere. It gets a +1 from me anyway and I reckon that if Mark can come up with a more elegant way of marketing his product PPLCruiser will be a success...

I am unable to compare I have never used PPL Cruiser.

However I have used AirQuiz for Air Law and Human Performance and it was one of my best investments to aid/test after studying the books.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll start with airquiz on the basis that its cheaper for the long term and then potentially give PPL Cruiser a bash closer to the time.

In terms of taking the exams, are they paper exams taken at the flight school, or do you have to do them elsewhere?

I second both opinions above about Airquiz ; time and money very well spent.

I've used both and like both. During the period from starting to study a subject in detail I use Airquiz to monitor my progress and to get an insight into how the questions on a given subject are presented. Once I think I'm ready to take an exam I sign up for that exam with PPL Cruiser too and use both to cram.

Airquiz doesn't usually go into detail on the answers (they do point you in the right direction if something has recently changed from the current text books) but they do email you the results and what you got wrong. I then go back over these incorrect answers until I understand why I screwed up. Also keeping the emails and reading back through them later on is very helpful.

PPL Cruiser give you immediate answers on each question with explanation and things to be wary of on some of the questions with tricky wording. I like that you can just do a few questions when you get a chance, which keeps the subject fresh as you lead up to the exam.

From my experience I think airquiz is better to help you learn the subject, however, PPL C is a very good cramming tool to get you through the exam.

Both, I think are good value. I paid for the whole package with Airquiz but I pay for each subject as and when with PPL C.

They are paper exams and you will take them where a ground examiner terms a suitable place. I've taken some of mine at our flying club and others at the ground examiner's house. Ground examiners are linked to training organisations so most likely you would do them at the flight school.

I used both and felt that Airquiz was much better because there seemed to be a limited number of questions on Cruiser - kept getting repeated questions. That was 9 months ago, so Cruiser may have increased its question base since then.

I found airquiz really good. Also CATS CATS WBT 2.0 | Departure Lounge (Check-in) which I got from a link somewhere on PPRuNe.

Its a great tool to use a few days leading up to the exam just to brush up on your knowledge and get a feel for the type of questions.

The only topic where it did not help was the Navigation, Because this comes down to more practical work and attention to detail. However, exams like Air Law/AGK/Met I felt I easily achieved 10-15% higher mark due to ***************r.

Heard great things about Airquiz too so you can not go wrong with either.

Anyone think PPL confuser is too out of date now? I felt that didn't help me out as much.
