Swedish aircraft drops Teddy bear paratroopers on Minsk
Hundreds of Teddy bears dropped in a stunt by a Swedish advertisement agency. Flying from Lithuania to Minks and back for over 1h 20min in Belarus airspace undetected does no credit to their air defence.
Lucky they did not get shot down. A bit risky me thinks, that is, if they really did it. Attached links: Swedes launch teddy bear 'assault' on Belarus - The Local Swedish PR firm's pro-democracy teddy bear drop on Belarus - The Local Link to the website of the ad-agency Hem |
probably now they expect Belarus to drop hundreds of real good Votka bottles over that Swediswh firm area...:ugh:

Great, written in English and Belarusian, when the majority of the populace speaks Russian.
Also, "the wider Minsk metropolitan area" means nothing - they've likely been dumped in a field somewhere. Haven't heard anything from my wife's side of things either (Belarusian wife with lots of friends in Minsk) |
Shades nof Mathias Rust! :D

No, seriously, this could catch on.
Iran ... China ... North Korea ... Opportunities out there for the intrepid aviator. And Teddy Bears don't scream when tortured ... I'm all for it. |
the two people visible in the last few seconds almost look like CGI characters. |
At 27 seconds you will see a banner and some road signs. Might tell you where it is, if you can read the langauge.

Didn't know you were able to open the canopy of a DR400 in-flight to drop something the size of a teddybear through, without losing the canopy.
|
And Teddy Bears don't scream when tortured ... |
BackPacker you are correct, however the aircraft is not a DR400 as it has a tailwheel.
It may be possible to hold the lift up doors on a Jodel or DR250 etc. to allow the bears out? |
WaspJunior, you may well be correct. I was going by the shape of the wings.

Possibly irrelevant information:
The Edambusters drop mini Edam cheeses from the airbrakes of Jodel DR1050s in the Netherlands. Dornoch (Scotland)is the only airfield I know which has a sign warning that it is illegal to drop teddy bears from aircraft. |
At least these teddies had parachutes! Not so unfortunate Turkeys in Arkansas.

Bump; Belarus teddybears
I'm still not certain,
did this air intrusion / civil disobedience really take place ? Link to english translated local news, with onboard video published; Teddy bears assault. Full video of flight - Charter'97 :: News from Belarus - Belarusian News - Republic of Belarus - Minsk |
going to court
According to major swedish newspaper,
Nallebombning ska utredas i Sverige | Inrikes | SvD the source-country of the supposedly intrusion-flight with destination Minsk (i.e. Lithuania) has requested the matter with PR-firm "Studio Total" brought to Justice. So maybe we'll soon know if the teddybear-dropping actually occured as Swedish legal system has picked up investigation work... |
You gotta be careful doing stuff like this, I remember many years ago a group in Miami called Hermanos al Rescate (Brothers To The Rescue) an anti Castro group used to fly Cessna 337's over Havana dropping leaflets, it all ended in tears.
