High wing v. low wing in a strong wind

I guess the wind was about 20G30. The low wing aircraft is almost rock solid. |
Part of the effect may be due to the springy undercarriage. Actually, the springy undercarriage may even reduce the stress at the wing roots!

Its partly because of the springy gear and partly to do with the geometry amplifier of having the wing tips further away from the geometric center of rotation of the aircraft while on the ground.
The low wing will have the wings nearly in line with the center and the high wing will be a couple of ft up from it |

To be fair it is half a ton lighter and another 5-10knts and it would be an insurance job it not being attached to the earth (note that a couple of concrete tyres wouldn't make a difference)

Last time I flew Gaybird she was white and green. I flew her into my old 250 yard strip with someone else; so I can assure you she gets off the ground pretty quick! :ok:
