Unfriendly NOTAM

It's no massive secret that my formation aerobatic team Aerobatic Display Team | Wildcat Aerobatics is based at Old Buckenham. Today we had an Air 2 Air photo shoot sortie planned with our old RAF mate Jorgo from Action Air Images.

Jorgo and super-friendly-helpful JW pitched up at Old Buck at 1000 this morning. We'd all independently checked wx and Notams. Our sortie was due to go off at midday local (1200A) and this coincided beautifully with HM's Birthday FlyPast.

We decided that we really ought to plot the dozen and a half lat/longs and avoid. What a bloody job - halfway through, we decided that for a variety of reasons and the photo-ship recovering to N Weald was a biggie, it would be easier if we just delayed until the restricted area became unrestricted.

This is not a rant or a whinge but it was probably the most unfriendly NOTAM I have ever seen in 30 years! Were it kept simpler, I'm sure there would be fewer infringers!

Anyway - we had a good trip and it will be interesting to see the outcome when the film comes back from Boots!;)

Another reason for 'picture' NOTAMs to show airspace. :ok:

That must have been the 50nm radius line on SkyDemon covering the whole of East Anglia when I was playing with it this morning. I couldn't get a reason to come up.

Always worth looking here.

Be sure to get YOUR photo NOTAM in first for next year's QBF.

Ground Level to 10,000 ft should be adequate ;)

Stik,

you could always look here

Works for me:ok:

PS Talking of crazy NOTAMs, take a look at the area of the Microlight rally. Does this REALLY justify such a large area?

Al,

Try this for NOTAMS UK 48-Hour Notams : Warnings and Restrictions

Or get Skydemon lite which is free and super easy to use.

I give up with Mike, he keeps asking whether he can take some photos of the Edge, we agree that he will let me know when he's in the area...and lo and behold bu**er all.

When an activity involves RA(T), it's always best to look at AIC's rather than just NOTAMs as they often, as in this case, have a comprehensive map attached.
Stiknruda did this not occur to you?

Playing with SkyDemon Light on Friday (not flying this weekend, just a calm before a storm at work), it seemed to plot the QBF route very precisely.

Ok a question for those with more knowledge than me. If one were to schedule a NOTAM which meant for example the fly past had to change the routing would the NOTAM still stand and the fly past route be changed?

I'll correct: nothing would change. There would be two NOTAM for different things in the same place. It would take some airborne give and take to ensure deconfliction. Not sure if the NOTAM office would flag it up though.

NOTAMS are only advisory RA(T)s are compulsory so trump NOTAMs.

I think the RAF and the Queens birthday trump anything anyway.
