Uk PPL biennial check

Hi Everyone
I have just been signed off on my biennial check, the instructor signed my log book only, do I need to complete any forms or should he have signed my licence

If you mean a SEP Class Rating renewal by experience, you need to get your licence signed off by a FE on the class rating page, then complete SRG 1119 (which they need to complete a section of) and send it off to the CAA - there's no fee.

But you don't need to do it until within 3 months prior to your SEP Class Rating expiry. But ensure you do it before it expires otherwise you have to revalidate by test.

Thank you very much I have been out of the country for a while and did my check ride on Friday and my SEP expires tomorrow the 10th May does that mean a retest?

Unless you can get an FE to sign your licence rating page before midnight, unfortunately , yes, as you will fail to comply with the revalidation requirements and will need a renewal.

When you say it expires tomorrow do you mean the 10th May? If so then you can get to any FE, TRE, SFE, GE or R examiner anytime tomorrow and he can sign you off.

I'm pretty disappointed that the instructor who did your check flight did not mention what you had to do! I would have warned you exactly what's required to get re-validated and what the deadline is.

The 3 month requirement was an error that no longer exists, you can do it at any time in the 12 months prior to expiry.

Who did your instructional flight, and how could they not explain this to you? Very disappointing.

If you go to any flying club you're bound to find an examiner knocking about who can sign your licence. There's no fee, just a form which is one side of A4 to send to the CAA for notification.

Whopity, where's the reference for that, CAP 804? Haven't had chance to read it through yet.

I had my bi annual last year, licence signed by cfi. End of. Not informed of any form I had to complete... have I been flying illegally for 12 months??

CAP 804 isn't in force until the 1st July isn't it?

Whopity - so if an FE signs it off before the 3 month, they use that signing date as the renewal date, otherwise they use the expiry date of the SEP?

So unless Whopity can shed any light on it, according to LASORS, Msl3, you're out of luck unless you can get it signed off tonight.

You certainly should have filled in SRG1119

SRG1119: Type/Instrument/Class Ratings (Aeroplane), Licensing/ATPL Skill Test and Proficiency Check - Application | Publications | About the CAA

There's no fee, as far as I'm aware it's purely for notification, they scan it in and keep it on file. Probably best to investigate this with whoever signed off your licence, there's a chance they may have filled one out and sent it without you knowing.

There was never any 3 month requirement in JAR-FCL, and there is no such requirement in FCL.740.A It is an experience requirement and once the experience is met within the allowed period, there is no logical reason for any other time period to sign it up. The 3 months that appeared in the ANO was the result of confusion with the 3 month window for revalidation by proficiency check that did appear in JAR-FCL and FCL.740.A. It would appear that this illogical non requirement has migrated into the new book, it is no longer a legal requirement.

Thank you very much. I doubt anything was sent off on my behalf as I seem to remember him being very confused at the fact I fly on a Cypriot issued JAA licence. Having never seen one before, he wasn't sure what he was supposed to do with it.

I'll be banging on his door first thing!
