Looking for the Olympic 1:500k airspace chart

.... but not the standard 1:500k southern chart, which does show the olympic TRA.

The one I am after I briefly saw the other day. It was just plain paper, not laminated, and it showed the olympic airspace with the D138 zone crossing route shown on it; this is the bit whereby you can transit to the east of the TRA just by speaking to Southend. That crossing path narrows down to about 0.5nm width at the north end.

I wonder if anybody sells this, or maybe it is free?

I want to scan it so I can run it as a GPS moving map.

Walk into a pilot shop, buy the chart and then take a photo of it on a decent camera.

JOE-FBS 19th Mar 2012 13:43

Peter, I think you are referring to the plain paper chart extract that is issued with the latest half mil' when buying it.

peterh337 19th Mar 2012 13:53

Could well be :ok:

Prop swinger 19th Mar 2012 14:25

Here you go, Peter.

peterh337 19th Mar 2012 14:33

That's fast work, prop swinger :ok:

I never worked out how to scan to make a QCT.

And yes it would do nicely.

But that is just the A4 page from the CAA handout, I think. The thing I was looking for was about 2ft x 2ft and showed what yours shows, plus about 2ft x 2ft of the southern chart.

piperarcher 19th Mar 2012 16:19

I bought a couple of the new southern charts the other day, and the 2ft non laminated map you refer to comes as a supplement. I have a spare one, which I would happily send you, but I presume you will get one of the new charts, of if your local supplier didnt give you the supplement - I presume you will be back there asking for it :-)

Propswinger:

I cant open that on airnav pro, is that an airnav pro file or did it just default the image to an airnav pro because i have it installed on my iphone?

Prop swinger 19th Mar 2012 17:30

It's a Memory Map chart file, basically a calibrated image of p42 of the Olympic AIC supplement. You might be able to do the same in the Air Nav Pro format if you know what type of image & calibration file to use.

The paper chart supplement was supposed to be available as an A3 sized pdf file.

Peter,
I think you will find you are exempt from R112 rules and regulations anywhere in that vfr shaded corridor as long as you are in it with Southend ATC permission so you do not have to squeeze through a tiny area at the northern end, you have a wider lane.
If you are avoiding R112 rules and regulations then what you must not do is leave the corridor shaded area unless you leave it into the airspace outside R112 (and d138)

peterh337 20th Mar 2012 09:42

Interesting; thanks :ok:

It doesn't actually say that though, or does it?

In reality I would probably just file Eurocontrol IFR for FL140 and then none of this stuff matters provided one is talking to London Control before and after going near the TRA.

RedKnight 20th Mar 2012 12:49

This is slightly off topic, but does anyone know of a store in central London where I can purchase a copy of the latest edition of the Southern England & Wales 1:500k chart (including the Olympic supplement)?

Brilliant, thank you my friend.

The Southend GA Olympic Corridor isn't shown on the freebe Olympic 500k chart, I notice.

Pilot.Lyons 21st Mar 2012 14:33

Ok brill thanks propswinger

The Southend GA Olympic Corridor isn't shown on the freebe Olympic 500k chart, I notice.
I can confirm that... Just bought the latest southern chart.

I thus wonder where the hell that chart I saw came from.

Maybe the A3 version is the best option.

Prop swinger 21st Mar 2012 20:06

How annoying.

Outline of GA corridor:
Memory Map mmo
gpx

Hopefully, the gpx file can be imported into Skydemon, Air Nav & Pocket FMS.

dublinpilot 22nd Mar 2012 00:02

I can confirm that PFMS will show all the Olympic Airspace, and any corridors.

Matty906 22nd Mar 2012 20:35

Can anyone understand the abbreviations on the olympic chart. Even with the AIP open and in your hand it aint easy to understand.

Just wondering how we are supposed to fly with the chart and the AIP and aviate, navigate and communicate!

Can see some trouble ahead!
