ENJA Jan Mayensfield
Anyone flown (civil) to here? Agreed it's not on the beaten track (350nm NE of Iceland). :O
Fly safe, Sam. |
No. I think a Herc goes in there once every 6 months to resupply the Norwegian military / weather station that is based there. (I know people who were based there in the Noggie military).

Anyone else think this thread is about Jayne Mansfield!? :}

Not me, for one. She really in the ICAO directory? Must be impressive then, one way or another...

It wil probably be an uphill struggle as it seems to be a military airport. The runway looks decent enough.
http://www.jan-mayen.no/airfield/Bil...s_oversikt.JPG The FotoNord company apparently landed a Piper Navajo there in June 2005. So it's not impossible. http://www.jan-mayen.no/nyhet/2005/n...i2005/fly1.jpg http://www.jan-mayen.no/nyhet/2005/n...i2005/fly2.jpg |
Thanks for all of that, difficult is okay - impossible takes a little longer.
I'll post back here once I have some more info - but it looks like a great place to visit if you like 'out of the way'. Fly safe, Sam. |
I share your interest in these odd destinations. So I Googled it some more and found this 2010 expedition report.
Jan Mayen Arctic Expedition 2010 They used a Twin Otter out of Iceland operated by Norlandair. Contacting them would probably be the quickest way to get some info. http://arctic2010.files.wordpress.co...others_web.jpg |
So far, they're saying 'no', but it's a work in progress! :)
