New FAI Aresti Catalog of Aerobatics Figures for 2012
Just a heads-up for all you aerobatics competition flyers out there, in case you haven't heard it by now.
The FAI has completely re-arranged the Aresti Catalog of Aerobatics Figures. All figures in families 1-8 now have a four-part sequence number, and the grouping of sequences into subfamilies has been made more consistent. For example, the beloved horizontal line 1.1.1 is now called 1.1.1.1. (But not all conversions are that straightforward.:ouch:) In addition to this, several new subfamilies have been added: - 7.4 Reversing Whole Loops - 7.5 Horizontal S's - 8.6 Reversing P Loops - 8.8 Double Humpty Bumps To the best of my knowledge, no K factors for existing figures have been changed. Obviously this will have a major impact on sequence creating software (Alan Cassidy and OLAN), "known" sequences and the rules wrt. "free" and "unknown" sequences. Especially if you design sequences yourself. |

This post made me wonder how many people on here do fly in aerobatic competitions? I have thus far participated in one competetion. I hope to fly in Standard next year. |
how many people on here do fly in aerobatic competitions? The revised catalogue was briefly on the CIVA website, but is now only available by purchasing from the Aresti family who own the copyright. pm me if you need any info on the catalogue as I have it. |
I came 3rd in a spot landing competition with a C310 if that counts :)

And as I recall you didn't do too shabby either. Especially considering the low number of hours you had since the PPL.
Will you be ready at Standard level for the spring contest at EHOW? Looking forward to competing against you there. Be advised that VINK will be adding one figure to the list of figures that may appear in the Standard Unknown. I don't have the reference number to hand, but it's a Half Cuban immediately followed by an Immelman. |
I hope to be ready for Oostwold. I've still got a lot to learn before I have any hope of mounting a somewhat competitive effort. I am slowly getting to grips with my new aerobatic mount, the Pitts S-2A. So it is still on. :)
That still leaves a couple of new figures to practice and learn the Pitts energy management to string them together in a nice sequence. What might prove to be the greatest challenge is to fly an unknown seqeunce. Any tips on how to approach unknowns are most welcome. :ok: |
