Lee On Solent Fly-in
 

Lee Flying Association is delighted to announce their third fly-in on the 9th July 2011. We will be providing the usual excellent catering including the already famous all-day breakfast and for the first time, cream-teas in the afternoon. There will be an opportunity to visit the hovercraft museum at Lee On Solent and explore the delights of Lee on Solent seafront and town.

We also hope to provide a small exhibition on the history and importantly, the future of the airfield.

Following the change of management at the airfield we are delighted to confirm that there is no requirement for PPR or insurance documentation. We do however ask that you read the pre-flight information on the LFA website for notes on local procedures.

Dropped in today with IO540. A very friendly group who seem very anxious to get the airfield used and running on a decent commercial basis. I may not make the fly-in but I wish you guys every success with it.

Sorry i missed you guys was there most of the day in front of the tower rather than the club caravan. I think lee will be an applause for ga for a change.

I think Lee is a superb facility.

For those who are a little unsure about coming, perhaps based on the reception they might have received in the past, a reminder that the airfield is now under new management and you are assured of a warm welcome. No PPR, no booking, just come and join us. (But please read the briefing on the eghf.co.uk website and even more please, don't infringe the Solent airspace.)

The long-range forecast is looking good so how many sausages should we buy?

I was planning a visit today. Just wanted to check I've got right:

23 is right hand circuit, join downwind
05 is left hand circuit, join down wind

Avoid built up areas of stubbington
Remain in western part of atz (delimitated by disused railway line)
Call lee on 118.925, fine to switch from Farnborough on 125.250 n need to contact fleet lands if in western side of atz?

If gliding in progress need the "holding launches" call.

Power circuits are to the northwest, glider circuits to the south-east, i.e. 23 RH and 05 LH. If you have houses under you you're in the wrong place, downwind leg is over open country. Circuit Height is 1000 ft a/d is 32ft amsl.

118.925 c/s Lee Radio is operated by Britten-Norman who now operate the field. They will co-ordinate movements with the Gliding Club ("Glider Base")

By local agreement there is no requirement to speak to Fleetlands providing you are arriving/departing LoS and remain west of the disused railway line that runs down the Gosport peninsula.

Follow a/g instructions re parking, we will have marshallers on hand.

AVGAS will be available and is low-cost compared with other fields, no cards but cheques or cash are fine. AVTUR can be made available from Atlas Helicopters by prior arrangement.

Please don't bust Solent zone or the Fleetlands Zone east of the disused railway line.

I'll be mowing the grass for you this weekend. If you're interested in basing an aircraft at Lee ask for me or Jon Butts and we'll let you know what's available.

If you have an interesting aircraft you'd like to display we can park you at Hangar B rather than in the main parking area, drop me a PM if interested. We'll be trying to minimise movements in this area as there will be public access.

Gliding is likely to be taking place, they will be operating from grass to the south of the runway. We'll have a grass runway to the north of the hard available for powered a/c.

Couldn't down today, didn't have enough time on the plane, but will visit soon.

Would love to fly in on the 9th but it is Yeovilton Airshow the same day and we're flying in for that. Will definitely visit soon though.

The holding launches" call is now defunct. A "aerotow/winch lauch in progress" call is made instead when a launch is about to commence.

Obviously a launch only commences when the Duty Instructor at the launch points determines that it is safe to to do.

So just carry on as usual making normal circuit calls.

Just be prepared to give way (go-around, not orbit on final) if a glider takes up final ahead of you from the other circuit. He/she will be lower and tighter than you.

If in any doubt ask for traffic and Lee Radio will answer, or Glider base is Lee Radio gone home.

New FlyBN Lee Radio hours from 4th July 0900-1700 weekdays, 0900-1800 weekends.

Work started on 1st phase of the Flybn Clubhouse being created at the control tower building - pilot lounge, flight briefing room, simple kitchen - planned to be ready in 3 or 4 weeks time.
