UK PPL Revalidation - Does it cost £?
 

Sorry guys i've had a look on the CAA webs*ite and quickly came to the conclusion that it would be quicker to use the collective experience of the pprune forum :ok:

I've just revalidated (I am current) my SEP rating with an instructor. I've got the application form but can't remember whether the CAA want some form of payment too?

Assuming it's a normal SEP class rating revalidation, and not a license renewal, it's free.

Just make sure the examiner signs form SRG\1119 and post it to the CAA. The examiner should also sign your class rating revalidation page that's part of your license.

Most examiners will do this for free or for a very modest fee.

All examiners should do it for Free; if not find another one.

And while Whopity's PPL examiner renews your SEP rating for free his Licenced engineer not charge you to renew your aircraft's ARC !

Get real mate ! with an IR renewal costing £1000 each year, the instructor renewal at £600 over three years and all the other costs of keeping professional licences and ratings just how can you not charge and still put bread on the table.

I am just organizing a SEP(land) revalidation during my stay in California next month. In a search for an approved examiner there I have found the UKFT ( www.ukft.com) . And...

The owner of this school Mr. Sinha quoted ....

$ 500 (five-zero-zero)

for the revalidation by experience. I have asked the guy, whether it was a typing error but not, he really want to have five hundert greens for the revalidation. Beware...

Mr. Sinka does exist on the CAA examiners list, so it seems that CAA knows about his existence...

Back home means Germany, and here the prices are quite different... But my experience in the States was really good before UKFT - my last revalidation was in Florida, they required me to make kind of checkout in their plane with their instructor, charged this one hour and everything was done...

I could not find this list at CAA tonight, it seems to be discontinued, or I was too stupid to find it..:-(

The list I' ve found was for radio-communication examiners, but the list was pretty actual...

yepp, I will try this option with San Diego area...

I will charge you the price of a first class postage stamp for a revalidation by experience. OK, for a flight test (LPC/LST) I may ask for my expenses to be covered but for 10 minutes paperwork (yes, I'm slow :) ), I think I can maintain the spirit of GA.

Any Examiner charging for a few minutes of paperwork time should be named and shamed!

In the halcyon pre-JAR days, weren't BX Examiners specifically prohibited from charging for paperwork signature?

I recently renewed by LPC at Wellesbourne with the CFI who is also an examiner. Got the whole thing done in 90 mins at the standard instructors hourly rate, he did the paperwork, ticked the box to say I could speak Ingrish proper and I did the posting. None of this £5/10/15/20 extra for a signature nonsense, didn't charge extra for the coffee either ;-)

Me too. I never charge for a revalidation by experience paperwork excercise. There are enough rip off charges in GA as it is.

I do prefer to do the paperwork sat at a table in the pub though!! :p

I can update you on San Diego - 150$ for revalidation on experience (paperwork)...

Some background on my situation - I am a hobby pilot, flying only during holidays and only in the States. I make probably 40 hours a year. I have done my JAR PPL A 2007 in Florida (OBA), 2008 getting FAA PPL based on my JAA license. 2008 and 2009 I have done some hours building in Florida again, 2010 I have done my FAA independent PPL and FAA IFR.

I leave for the last 7 years in Eastern Germany, I will stay here for another 2-3 years probably, after that time I am going to move to a more developed part of this country. Actual flying in the place I live is not possible, cause of professional obligations and lack of planes for rent, despite the costs (over 300$ wet for one hour C172). I could forget the JAA issue, but I still hope to move to another place, where flying +/- joining a club +/- share purchase would be possible. But a type revalidation is pain... Last time I have done it somewhere in Florida, flying in, taking one hour with their CFI and having the things done, I see that I was very lucky in this constellation...

Is the examinator allowed to make a revalidation without seeing the aplicant (with sending/resending the papers by conventional mail)? Any other suggestions are welcome. Even if the present experience with California is a bit strange, I still want to continue flying in the US - I like the country, I like their attitude towards General Aviation, I like this kind of holidays, landing in the middle of nowhere in the night, swiping the credit card over the reader, getting fuel which is still exorbitant, but also still very "cheap" compared to Europe, getting all necessary information for free etc...

For a revalidation by experience the examiner does not need to see the candidate, just the paperwork.

If everything else fails and you still can't get hold of an examiner to have your license revalidated, the CAA at Gatwick can do it through the same-day service, although at the end of said day you'll be left £87 out-of-pocket.

They were indeed and I am not aware of any change to that policy! Perhaps it just faded away like many other things. Miss E C-H sent a letter to all X and BX examiners stateing that charges should not be made for signing certificates of revalidation by experience.

dont forget, these days an instructor can do it too
