Germany

Does anybody have any experience of good GA airfields in central/east Germany which would be suitable as a stop off to Polant/Lithuania?

Thanks in advance

several years ago I made a stop in Siegerland - Siegerland Airport Online and I was happy there....

Check them out at http://www.airports.de/index.php?lang=en
but be warned that the lang=en will still leave you with a lot of Teutonic - not bad to get used to that anyway.
And do not forget your first stop outside UK must be a customs aerodrome, which might much reduce your options.

Hi,

there are several options, all depending on the type of aircraft and which flight rules you're following.

Reichelsheim would be an option:

Flugplatz Reichelsheim in der Wetterau

Airport data:

AIRPORT Flughafen Flugplatz Pilot

See the pilot reviews on this private website:

eddh.de - Landeinformationen

You could use google translator on eddh.de

For fuel prices etc.

EDFB - Reichelsheim | Pilot Airport Information

Hope that helps, have a good trip : -)

I can highly recommend Bremerhaven, on the coast, north of Bremen. And, if you want a scenic diversion, Helgoland is not far off from there....

It's been a few years now, but I stopped at Siegerland a couple of times. They are (or were) customs/immigration PNR, but that only meant calling them from the airfield in the UK immediately prior to departure (they needed a reasonably accurate ETA). If the restaurant is still there, then it's got some of the best steaks this side of Texas! Generally a very friendly and efficient field, I'd go in there anytime if flying again in that area. :ok:

Recommend EDAZ Schoenhagen

Schoenhagen is a good GA airfield, about 50kms SW of Berlin IIRC, quite modern. Went there last year when it was VFR only - they were talking about getting an RNAV approach but don't know if they have yet.
Two good runways (one 1,510m asphalt, one 700m asphalt or 760m grass), well run but relaxed airfield. Reasonably cheap (parked my aircraft there for a week).
When I was there you were required to join mid downwind, south of the runway 07-25 / 12-30, then turn left onto downwind then right base if landing on 07 / 12 or turn right onto downwind then left base onto 25 / 30.
(They would not permit a straight-in approach, even though it was just before they closed for the night and there was no-one else around.)
A/G only

It's a while ago and it depends whether you are headed for the Northern part of Poland or the Southern, but Leipzig Halle proved surprisingly GA friendly if you want a seriously big airport.

Eggersdorf - Muncheberg, east of Berlin just short of Poland. Very friendly place

Huge grass runway with tarmac strips either end - apparently the East German airforce used to fly Migs off it!
