My Aera records at around 1 datum every 4 seconds.

From the Home page:

Tools | Track Log | Menu | Setup | Track Interval

gives you the options of:
  • Automatic
  • Time (with a user-settable time step)
  • Distance (with a user-settable distance step)

I believe the GPX format just stores a list of Height/Lat/Lon/Time quartets,
and doesn't care about any frequency.

I have always used "Automatic", and the step size typically varies from 15 seconds when I am flying straight to 4 seconds when I am turning.

GPS unit measurements for Canada

I have just purchased an Aera 500. I do not seem to be able to set the uniits to the Canadian Imperial Galon. The only option is US galons or Liters. Am I missing something here or is Impreial Measurement just not an option? Thanks.

Does anyone who uses the Aera 500 notice a loss of reception at all?

Sort of hard to know if my experience is relevant without knowing the circumstances of your units loss of reception, but I used mine 2 weeks ago Albury to Melbourne and excellent reception as usual.
Hope this helps.

No problems yet, but only used it a couple of times in a 152 so far (it was a Christmas present and weather hasn't been kind to me so far!). The PA28 I usually fly is offline at the moment. I'll let you know. These things can depend on canopy construction &c.

One thing I did do is buy a RAM mount - the included one is OK but a bit flimsy, and I found it vibrated. As I already had most of the RAM hardware from my old (Lowrance) GPS it was cheap to buy the Aera mounting block. It's much better like that.

I've had one drop-out, lasting about an hour between Chester and Cranfield a while ago - in about a year of use.

I don't personally use imperial gallons for anything, sticking to ONLY US gallons or litres, to avoid screwing up in the differences between US and imperial.
