Incident in Dorking?

All very odd.

Dorking was effectively closed to traffic from sometime before 4pm today. Emergency services seeming to be concentrated about a mile West.

Three independant sources say that a light aircraft 'was forced to land'. My take is 'forced landing'. No other news on here or BBC.

Was it perhaps an excercise?

Stuck in traffic, as I was, I had plenty of time to ask myself if it was a good afternoon for a light aircraft? As contacttower has also done I see.

I'm training to fly in G-BSPM
Oh, no you're not.

I'm glad the occupants weren't seriously injured but I think it might be quite a while before the aircraft is back in action.

If you look it up on G-INFO, I think that you'll find that it's a Thielert engined PA-28 with one of those splendidly reliable diesel motors with reduction gears...

It might have been clutch failure not the first time it has happened on these engines, are the AAIB investergating it? Who does the maintenance on the aircraft?

G-BSPM

I flew G-BSPM a couple of weeks ago at Fairoaks for differences training (I like the practicalities of the FADEC system, but the engine felt underpowered compared to the standard Warrior offering, although noticeably quieter and less thirsty) - I'm really pleased both the occupants are okay, I hope it won't put them off flying!
