The new Russian private pilot licences (yes, they issue them these days) are passport size and have bearer photographs. As did my old Finnish PPL licences in the 1970īs.

I bet there are people flying on there 'friends, brothers, cousins' licences all over the world just like in the driving world..
Surely its a security issue, esp after 911 etc |
"If you resemble our passpor photograph, see a doctor"
I still don't have a photo ID driving licence, probably should though. Is there anything to stop me putting a picture in my pilot's licence. I think there's a spare page. I could just get a postcard sized picure printed and write on the back "This is me!!". That should be a foolproof security measure, unless anyone gets hold of my licence and slides out the photo and puts theirs in. |
Thirty06,
The photo ID needs to be compliant with JAR-FCL1.015(a)(1) - what a mouthful! I assume a passport or photo driving licence would suffice. I still have an old paper driving one so I obtained a crew card from AOPA which is compliant. It also includes your Pilot Licence number. I think the LAA do one also. Just sticking a photo in yours will not be sufficient, as you point out it could be easily switched. |

Have aopa changed their card ? Since my last one,(it was a few years ago mind ) I was sent the card and I put my own picture in it can't see how compliant that would be Steve |
AOPA do two cards, one is your standard membership card the other is an aircrew card which is a printed plastic card with a photo on it.
If you take out a 2 year membership the card is included in the price. |
