Formation
Does anyone have any idea about the rules for formation flying as a civilian? I know that it is possible (aircraft photo shoots etc), but how, and what are the rules? Do you need a rating? I don't require training (other than maybe 1 or 2 trips on-type) as I have already done quite a lot of formation with the RAF, so what will I need to do to be allowed to do it as a civilian?
Any thoughts? Thanks Samson |
According to the ANO agree with the other pilot you are going to do it....

You require the consent of the other pilot(s) and a preflight briefing to discuss formation procedures. If you have RAF experience I wouldn't imagine this to be a problem. If you can find a dude called 'WJ' in chat then ask them, they are a formation team leader that won a recent competition.

Did a formation flight from Courcheval to Chambery with 2 C421's a while ago...seriously frowned upon by the French!
Uk ATC were great when we wanted to re-formate on entry into Uk airspace. Really good fun! http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/air...neattitude.gif |
Mr Bond
We regularly take our 7 Yaks to shows throughout France and have no trouble whatsoever with ATC. By the way your attitude's not so bad but you should generally be fully inverted by this point! Cheers Garry aerostars home page |
Group of single seaters, 60kts regularly fly formation trips at White Waltham. Contact me if you want to come along for day trips midweek sometime....
