King KNS 80 Service Manual

Has anyone out there got access to a KNS 80 service manual and would let me view it? The DME "Hold" facility in our unit doesn't work and our avionics guy cannot seem to fix it. I must strees that I do not intend to repair it myself but as a qualified electronics repair technician with over30 years experience repairing radios and t.v.s, I would like to view the relevant circuitry to be able to discuss the fault with him from a better informed position. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, David

Google KNS80 manual and it throws up other sites. It is still available from the manufacturers support download area as well.

If all else fails, PM me you eMail and I'll mail you a copy tonight.

KNS80 Service manual

Hi Duchess Driver, Thanks for your prompt reply but unfortunately I am unable to connect to your site, either via the link or typing in your URL. I have tried Google and the Bendix King site but all they can provide is the Pilot's operating manual which is no use as I need the Service/Repair manual which has the circuit diagrams. Many thanks, David.

KNS 80 Service Manual

Hi there, if you could mail me ([email protected]) a manual containing the circuit diagrams, that would be great. Many thanks, David.

I don't think I have the service ("maintenance") manual for the KNS80.

Given the age of this unit, a PDF would be a scanned-in one and probably rare, but a lot of "old" avionics people might have a paper copy.

They often come up on U.S. Ebay (ebay.com not ebay.co.uk). I recently bought a service manual for a pretty expensive instrument, 1980 dated, for $200. I don't need it now but one day it will be worth it - in the right hands.

I'd imagine a KNS80 would be a pig to repair, with all the analog/RF circuitry. All one can do is check for obvious mechanical damage, loose/dried out electrolytic caps, bad solder joints. In the olde dayz when people used to repair TVs, blindly replacing all the electrolytic caps would fix the fault a lot of the time.

Granny and eggs here but all the DME Hold switch does is prevent the NAV Freq selectors from changing the DME Freq. So, the most likely culprit is the DME Hold switch itself, which may be permanently 'made' due to years of sweaty fingers and muck. You might try removing the switch cap and squirt some switch cleaner into the box.

Failing that, it shouldn't be too difficult to access the bottom of the box and physically check switch operation with a meter.

KNS 80 Schematics

I am also looking for schematics for the KNS 80.

It's installed in my experimental Zenith Zodiac and it has worked great for years. Any luck finding them so far?

Also, if not, would anyone be willing to split costs on the full service manual when it appears on Ebay?

Thanks!
Happy Flying!

Eric
