Looking for a share in an aircraft

I'm looking to buy a share in a single.... .. .My criteria are:. .. .Must be 4 seater.. .Must be based within 30m of SE London.. .IFR avionics fit preferred.. .Low operating costs.. .. .Other than that I'm easy about the type.. .. .Please contact me on [email protected] if you know of any shares available.. .. .I'll be actively looking in the next few months.. .. .Cheers!. .foggy.. . . . [ 05 March 2002, 16:23: Message edited by: foghorn ]

Foggy,. .. .If you mean a four seater which will take four people with full tanks, a decent IFR fit and within 30 miles of SE London, you may have to redefine "low operating costs".. .. .I take it your starting at Cessna 182 level (Four seats / full tanks). . .. .An IFR fit currently means a relatively new refit with immune equipment.. .. .Have you seen the cost of hangerage (if you can get it) within a 30 mile radius of SE London?. .. .Sorry mate but the above pretty much preclude the aformentioned "low operating costs" unless you define low as around the £100 plus per hour mark

Foggy,. .. .LowNSlow does have a point. Biggin I know to be yur usual base is prohibitivly expensive, but that's just biggin for you.. .. .I would suggest that you cast your net a bit wider. Look at Headcorn/Rochester. Redhill I'd avoid like a dose of the clap. It might also pay you to look north of the river. Not sure if Saufend is too far, but there is Stapleford (that I know nothing about), but I have seen some shares out of a couple of private strips NE of London.. .. .If you where my way, I'd point you to Blackbushe/Popham. The latter particularily brings the cost down big time. . .. .HTH. .. .PS

Have you checked out the following sites:. .. . www.thehanger.co.uk/main.php . .. . www.afors.com . .. .Both have Groups Flying sections.

Rochester has a fair few group ads on the noticeboard atm - I'm pretty sure some of them fit your criteria. (Our group's a/c is not yet FM immune so I can't suggest ours).. .. .The noticeboard is too full and too changeable for me to copy it here - you'll just have to drop and check us out....... .. .Steve R

Thanks for the assistance, folks.. .. .Let me clarify things as I appear to have been a bit vague with the above and have already caused some misunderstanding.. .. .My requirements are:. .. .Must be a four seater. .I do not necessarily require the ability to carry four people with full fuel. .Must be located within ~30nm of SE London. .I would look at all airfields in an arc from North Weald through Stapleford, Rochester all the way round to Blackbushe and Fairoaks.. .IFR capabilities preferred. .if not already FM immune there must be realistic plans to upgrade to FM immunity soon with no potential naysayers in the group. .Must be low cost. .Considering the above requirements - I am aware that they all potentially increase the costs!. .. .cheers!. .foggy.. . . . [ 06 March 2002, 12:58: Message edited by: foghorn ]

Flyer forums also has a group flying section. .http://forums.flyer.co.uk

What are you actually planning to do with the aeroplane foggy?. .. .Will you be doing much flying which does not need an aircraft which meets all your requirements?. .If that is the case maybe a share in a PFA type for your fun flying (cheap) and occasional rental of the hi-spec machine would be a more cost effective solution (cheaper than a share in a big bucks machine full time).

Low 'n' slow,. .. .Good question. Maybe my requirements are so mixed that I'm going to end up compromising on all fronts and paying thorugh the nose.. .. .I'll be a regular weekend flyer and am planning some touring during holidays, I expect that puts me in the 100-150 hrs per year bracket.. .. .I usually fly with friends or the girlfriend rather than solo, so some passenger carrying abilities are necessary, although as I said, the ability to go four-up come-what-may is not necessary. I'm not a small person (6'3" rugby type) which is a consideration.. .. .I would like to do some touring, but out-and-out touring capabilities are not necessary (or I'd be looking for a Turbo Arrow or similar).. .. .I have an IR to keep current hence the IFR capabilities.. .. .I prefer low-wing types.. .. .I'm actually thinking in the Warrior to Archer/Grumman Tiger area (or equivalents).. .. .Notwithstanding all of the above, I'd like to keep the running costs as low as possible. The cost of the share is less of a problem.. .. .Maybe I should buy cheap and occasionally hire big, as you say.. .. .cheers!. .foggy.

Foggy,. .. .Buy the type most apropriate to the majority of your flying, ie if you spend all day pottering, don't get a twin/fancy single, but just rent when you need to.. .. .From what I now about you, your priority is to hours build. May I suggest that you get youself into a group that has as low an hourly rate as possible (carefull here), even if that is a two seater. 100 hours is goiung to be a lot less expensive in a 150 than in a turbo arrow, plus, you'll end up getting everywhere in half the time, after all, if you need numbers in the logbook, whats the rush. . .. .Avioid anything with turbos, wobbly props and retracts as each one of those will increase the cost significantly.. .. .Remember, most of all, enjoy.. .. .I'll get you up in our Cherokee in the near future. It's a 180 horse, so a true 4 seater (I have a family). We charge ourselves 50 a month (8 in the group) and 50 a tacho hour (gives about 1 hour 10-15 mins clock time). This is not the cheapest by any means, but suits my flying.. .. .HTH . .. .PS

Lots of good stuff on this thread accumulated from years of shared ownership - thanks for helping out, guys! . .. .To be honest with you, P_S, your soon-to-be IFR Cherokee 180 is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Shame you don't have any shares free (or do you ). .. .£50ph may seem a lot when you're flying a PFA aircraft, but it's still a darn sight cheaper than UK club rental rates which I'm currently paying (and cheaper than many overseas rates once you factor in travel, accommodation and convenience).. .. .I've also got wind of an IFR Tiger share going a Biggin, which I'm looking into.. .. .cheers!. .foggy.. . . . [ 07 March 2002, 13:28: Message edited by: foghorn ]

Foggy,. .. .Totaly agree with you on that. Good luck with the Tiger. Nice plane.. .. .Regards. .. .PS

Polar_stereographic 7th Mar 2002 17:44

Foggy,. .. .Just to add, I'm no expert on groups, but you do need to vet them carefully, and if you want to run it past me, you've got my numbers, and I'll be more than happy to talk anything you find through with you.. .. .PS

Thanks, P_S, I appreciate it.. .. .cheers!. .foggy.
