Stop knocking Redhill !
 

I have just discovered this website and have found a plethora of messages telling of how horrible Redhill Aerodrome is.

As someone who learned to fly at Redhill a few years ago and also someone who flys there a lot now I think that some of the comments are a little unfounded.

Redhill Aerodrome is a charming, grass airfield used by some of the frendliest folk around.

There have been problems there. For example the reduced opening hours last Summer were rather inconvenient, the landing fees seem a little steep for a relatively small grass airfield and there was a controller whose temprament was perhaps not ideally suited to Redhill - but he has now gone.

Philip the Senior controller, quite a nice chap left and has now come back. Hopefully 2002 will be a good year for Redhill.

As someone who got a good roasting from said fellow (or one of his close colleagues) a few years ago, glad to hear things have changed for the better, and I wish you all a succsessful year down there.

Moral: don't let one bad experience put you off.

Maybe the Cumbernauld-bashers could now also give it a rest....

Now let me see...

Yes the fees are a little steep, so we complain that the fees are steep...

Yes the Atco was rude, so we complained about the rude Atco.....

Yes last summer we hardly flew as it was waterlogged, so we complained about the waterlogging....

When it wasn't waterlogged it, it closed early, so we complained about it closing early.

What is your point? we haven't "given it a hard time" it just so happens that all of the things that you list above really hack people off.

And yes it is a nice airfield,

. .When it is open, dry, they forget to charge you £16 and when they are not shouting at you.....

His point being that they are aware there have been problems and are doing something to put things right.

So it would be nice if we quit moaning and gave 'em another chance ...

Redhill is indeed a delightful aerodrome. Shame about the morons who operate it though...... <img src="rolleyes.gif" border="0">

If only the people running the airfield, thought a little more about the wishes of the people(other than Bristows) using the aifield, it would be wonderful, actually to be honest they are pretty good now though. Some excellent clubs, especially for people looking for tailwheel and touring, friendly users, and now friendly and efficient controllers, in fact, now very good controllers. Once they've finished messing about with the runways in a few weeks and the better weather arrives, it will be a dream spot again. Forget Biggin, Fairoaks and other hard airfields. In the summer no-where is better than Redhill. Now only if they were open 24/7 and were lit. I think I've just converted myself, all is forgiven, let me back in, please. Sorry Julian, I think I spoilt your thread. Or am I just mad. Answers on a postcard please. Treacle and custard pudding Margery.

I've never been to Redhill, but it's on my list of aerodromes to trundle off to once I get my PPL (whenever that will be...oh well roll on the Summer). . <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

I'll need a heavy dose of convincing that things have improved before I go there.

Shame, as it's my closest field.

Unfortunately sometimes the truth hurts. Hell, just turn a blind eye to it, Redhill's management do!

Redhill was not on my list of places to visit, due mainly to them having bad publicity here on PPRuNe. If they realise there are problems, and they are making an effort to turn things around, then we need to be told, so that we can put the field back on our list of places to visit! Although it sounds like there may still be a way to go, I'll keep listening to what people say on this forum, and hopefully one day soon I'll hear enough good things to want to go there!

Never been in there myself. . .. .Cant help feeling that if they have sat round and decided to improve things then this continual bashing on PPRuNe isn't going to let them make much headway.

FFF and any one else who wishes to visit Redhill - DO SO -. I fly into very many UK and continental airfields (large and small) and my experience of Redhill has never varied. The people in control are very professional, very friendly and very helpful. For those that have a different experience I am at a loss to understand why. At the risk of being "shot down" so to speak is it a case of "ye reap as ye shall sow?"

WorkingHard,. .. .Just out of interest, what do you typicaly fly into there? Might have a bearing on their attitude, but hopefully not if you get my drift.. .. .PS

PS Cessna S/E so little to set me apart from any user. I do mostly fly as my company pilot but I do not think that would affect the attitude ( at leeast I hope not)

Well, things may have improved there and the Tower is always above average these days. BUT - how many AC got bogged there last weekend? I counted 3 and this is after the drainage has been improved!
