Extra 300 accident ??

Hello all.

Very sad news about the pilot and the loss of the aircraft, my thoughts are with the pilots family, and may the pilot RIP.

The crash site is just the Leeds side of the River Calder on the A639 at Castleford, the Police have the road closed off between Methley and Castleford, and as of 19:30, were not sure what time the road would reopen, I have not been able to get any where near the site, but I was able to see Police officers walking along the river bank, this means the aircraft came down only about 300 meters from houses.

Speaking as part owner of G-XTRA, I can tell you that it was NOT G-XTRA that was involved in this accident.

I knew the pilot well, and can only offer my heartfelt condolances to friends and family.

Hang your head in shame KevinRowett. I think an apology is called for right now. I tried to do this via PM, but your inbox was full. I wonder why.

Jumping the Gun

Once again unfounded and inaccurate information is posted.

Someone has died, can we have some respect for their family and friends and WAIT for a formal statement to be made before giving spurious information on a public forum.

Sky News immediately put this photograph up on their web page

http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content...Week3/15610562

with this " It is not known what type of aircraft the pilot was flying" in very small font. I initially read about the crash on my iphone browser and didn't even see the small print.

At first glance it made it appear that G-JURG, a Rockwell Commander 114A had crashed :ugh:I don't believe that this disclaimer is good enough as first impressions do count.

RIP to the pilot and condolences to his or her family and friends.

Kevin

If you are new on this site, then you are probably not aware about the site protocol on accidents.

Although we are all interested in knowing about those involved, we need to be sure of the facts and generally wait until the public announcement has been made. That saves us from upsetting other members of the forum with a false alarm.

Given that many journos have taken to using this and other sites as a quick and easy way of making up a story, we have to show some responsibility and not rush into print.

On another site, you'll see that Sky News were illustrating their article with a picture of a Rockwell Commander with a caption of "It is not known what the aircraft type was". Thus scaring a load of friends and relatives of Rockwell pilots

Robin, well balanced friendly post. How I'd love a forum to be

Any fatal accident is horrible, wrong information can be hurtful....

Now let's wait for the "why's" of this accident being discussed (to me the purpose of this forum) and then the pouncing on this speculation by others....

Extra 300 accident ??

Dear all,

I do most sincerely apologize for the wrong information about the aircraft involved in this sad accident, and I would also like to apologize to the owners of said aircraft, next time I will double check the information I am given.

Once again, I do apologize to all on the group.

Regards

Kevin.

Extra 300 accident

I was in conversation with the pilot just 2 hours before he was killed. We were discussing my actions following an engine problem which I had just experienced, resulting in a Pan call and a priority landing. He listened thoughtfully, and gave sound advice, then congratulated me on my handling of the situation. A true professional and thoroughly nice guy. RIP

Thank you Kevin.

Well done

Well done Kevin on your response and I am equally sorry if my initial reacation was a bit blunt.

Robin managed to articulate my thoughts as they should have been.

I was fortunate to have flown with him back in 2005 and I remember just how enthusiastic and utterly professional he was. One of the most enjoyable 'club checkouts' Ive ever had. Hell of a character. R.I.P

G-JURG

My sympathies go out to the family of the pilot who died in the light aircraft crash in West Yorkshire on Sunday 20th June.

However, I am appalled that a photograph of my aircraft was depicted in the Sky News and a complaint has been made to the CAA and AOPA who are pursuing Sky for the unauthorised and inappropriate use of a photograph and that the information contained in the article is incorrect.

RIP fellow pilot.

Geoff Wright
