Weekend flying in France and Germany

I read somewhere that in France and Germany there is a ban on all GA flying from 1100 to 1500 or something like that. Is this true? If so, that is absolutely terrible! There is no chance of that happening in Britain is there? Don't these people realise most GA flying is at the weekend?. .Outrageous.

Hi TM,. .. .I certainly hope its not interdit to fly at weekends from 11:00 to 15:00 over here, ‘cause I set off yesterday at 11:00 from our little aerodrome, just after the Gendarmarie de l’air turned up for a surprise visit...... . .. .So no, it hasnt happened yet , at least not in France...Germany – no idea.. .. .However......there is a major event in France called dejeuner or ‘Lunch’ which generally takes at least 3 hours and starts around midday...so all flying generally ceases for this important event at french aeroclubs...... . .. .cheers SD.

Used to fly out of Aachen in Germany and never heard of such a rule.. .. .I might add that flying in that area was a joy. Tower made all the locals speak english when i pitched up for safety reasons.. .. .Got busted for flying over a graveyard but everything was OK when they found out i was a Island Monkey ( you think its only the British with nick names for the other countrys in europe). .. .If your in the area and want to hire a plane visit Westflug. Very nice planes and the owner of the school is a very sociable chap. And even with not the best English he is a damn good instructor.. .. .MJ

Re. Germany, it's not quite like that, but there are some restrictions in places, mostly on circuit bashing. These are all detailed in German flight guide, or Bottlang Airfield manual Germany 6-6 "Ordenance for Noise Abatement at Airfield", or under individual aerodrome entries. Land-away flights are usually OK but you may have to show a noise certificate (the CAA issued one FOC for our C150).
