A tribute to a doctor, CFI and Yorkshire hospitality
 

After a motorcycle accident in early 2008 i stopped flying. I renewed my medical this March and needed to renew my ppl. I was looking at getting back into flying and flying again as p1, but the costs were the daunting issue. Then i discovered Full Sutton flying club near York. My instructor was Mikey Kaye a doctor at the local hospital and part time dedicated flying instructor at weekends . At Full Sutton i got a friendly welcome by everyone and they charge just £125 hourly including all touch and goes instructor rates and landing fee. Travelling up from Brighton Sussex just my first training hour there (compared to most south coast airfields) covered my return petrol costs and accomodation.I renewed my ppl for under £500.This included around 15 touch and goes. The Cfi went out of his way to accomodate me after my training,so thanks to all and im now back flying!!Kevin D. :ok::ok:

They ripped you off 'cos your a suvvenor Kevin. It should have been £115 an hour including instructor. Plus of course the temp membership.

Sounds like from the rest of your post that this is a pretty good price in the UK?

Ouch. It is so expensive to fly "over there", I hope thats in a certified aircraft at least, but even still very costly, woudln't cost too much more that that for R22 time here and that's saying something!

If you ever come to New Zealand, circa £45 will get you an hour in our microlight club's RANS S6, £70 in a Tecnam P92, or £45 in an Airborne Edge trike. All Microlights, spectacular flying around the South Island of New Zealand and further, with volunteer instructors :-)

I don't know what the aero clubs charge/hour for certified machines, but I believe it would be sub £100.

They didnt rip me off cos it actually was only £115 hourly "all inclusive" and i paid the £20 annual membership fee!! Im not sure if there is a flying club cheaper than this in the UK. Not only was it cheap but it was backed up by friendly pilots and quality instruction.:ok:I flew a c150 other aircraft were available at good rates.

Yes Adam is still there, however he now runs his own company teaching almost everything from groundschool upwards. Great circle something or other. I did my GFT with him. Very relaxed which put me at my ease straight away.

£106 / hour in a C152 including instructor at Halton as a temp member - and you don't need to be military personnel. No landing fees either.

I completed my PPL there in January :cool:
