PPL exams UK
Hi,
I have recently started PPL training and have along with the textbooks the question and answer simpliflier from AFE. I was wondering what peoples views are on using this book and how close are the questions inside to the real exam papers? Thanks in advance |
I used the PPL confuser for my exams and found them to be 85 to 90% accurate. If I was getting consistant high marks in the confuser I was confident of getting a pass in the real exam.
|
I also used the confuser when doing my airlaw - Was amazing (only a few months ago) going to continue using it for the rest of my exams...
T :ok::ok: |
Just to check we are using the same books tomtom. The book I have has 3 exam papers for each of the 7 exams needed to complete the PPL Is this the one you are using ?
Thanks K |
Get the Confuser!
The AFE Q&A simplifier isn't bad, but the PPL confuser is invaluable IMHO.
I read the AFE Met book, subscribed to AirQuiz and used the Q&A simplifier and thought I was ready for the paper. Then I had a look at the Confuser and realised I was not ready at all. The folks at the CAA have a wicked sense of humour when it comes to writing questions! Good luck. |
I always found airquiz a lot harder then the real exams I kept getting 35% and 70% - In the actual exam I got 88%!
Same for RT... 60-80% but got 100% - Ive spoken to quite a few co students who have done really well in the confuser when they did airquiz they got a lot lower and it really knocked there confidence when, actually they were ready for the CAA exam... :ok::} T |
Is the confuser still in print, or available from an online bookseller ?

the afe simplifier is not bad - a new edition is currently in print and should be out soon - i'm waiting for that one still (i've done air law already whilst waiting, but the test exams were taken from the previous edition of the book).
The pooleys books also have example questions in them. i've not seen the confuser as it is out of print. there is a 2007 edition on ebay at the moment though. The PPL Confuser JAA Version 8th Edition on eBay (end time 02-May-10 19:08:19 BST) Andoni |
The writer passed away and I think there have been a number of problems therefore it is not possible to get the book anymore... I have the 9th edition - I think this is the most up to date one.

I found AirQuiz EXCEPTIONALLY USEFUL in preparing for the exam. Practice makes perfect. Once you've gone through the theory (and make sure you do!), generate many tens of quizzes and review the solutions that are emailed to you (along with the helpful tips). This isn't a recommended preparation technique but frankly it works. I scored between 80-100% for all seven exams, averaging over 90% across the papers.

do you still need your copy? If not would you sell it? Cheers |
Argggh not sure what to do now. I can get easy 90% on the AFE Q & A simplifier however not sure if this is enough for the real exams ?
|
I see that Transair are listing a book called the 'PPL Perfector', and also an interactive CD ROM version. I haven't actually had my hands on a copy, but it looks as if it might be similar to the Confuser?
|
Use the Q&A Simplifier and cross reference to the full text books for anything you need more detail on...
If you know the simplifier off by heart, and understand it all, you'll pass. I used it, and I passed mine. Good luck... |
Cheeers thanks for all the advice. Will take this on board !
|
Quick update.
Just passed my Air Law with the afe Q and A simplifier and the AFE textbook. Both very good books, and recommend them for anyone studying for any of the subjects !! |
