Kilkeel, Co Down fatal accident AAIB report

Another sad case of a pilot trying to beat the weather.

An even worse case of 'get there itis' contained in the same bulletin.

This month's bulletins have got to be about the most depressing set I've ever read.

Let's be careful out there.

Sombre reading.

However, a lot can be learned from these reports... the sad thing in aviation is that lives are lost before lessons are learned.

You can never be too careful factoring weather into a flight but 'get-there-itis' is a condition I think we could all be susceptible to depending on circumstances.

I've been flying for a long time and I've almost come to expect these incidents as part of the yearly fatal accident figures.
I'm sure that we will never stop arrogant ppl's who think they can beat the weather.
In both accidents detailed in this month's bulletin innocent passengers lost their lives in very similar circumstances.

I was banned from pprune at the time of this accident for stating the obvious. The cavalier irresponsible pilot killed his passengers by stalling in trying to scud run in bad weather when daylight was fading.

Colin McRae died in similar circumstances in a helicopter accident in September 2007 which also claimed the lives of his son and two family friends.

In November 1975 Graham Hill was killed when his Piper Aztec crashed in the same sort of weather on approach to Elstree. The crash also resulted in the deaths of team manager Ray Brimble, mechanics Tony Alcock and Terry Richards, up-and-coming driver Tony Brise and designer Andy Smallman; all from the Embassy Hill team.

No doubt we will see more of the same over the coming years.

In my opinion any private pilot who takes passengers flying in poor weather beyond his capabilities should be jailed.

No Phil, you were banned for your unseemly haste to publish the details of those killed. A persistent characteristic of yours.

Sorry I thought this was a rumour network:ok:

None of the posts I have made have been incorrect.

I have never posted anything that has not been in the public domain.

In the case of this accident I posted weather conditions and details of the aircraft etc.

If you do not want this info posting in the future just ban accident details being posted until it appears on the BBC

Don't blame the messenger.

(And I still think the pilot was criminal in his actions which took others to their graves)
