Report in Thursday's Independent on recycling of unwanted airliners at Kemble.
Jet cemetery: Where do aircraft go when airlines go to the wall? - Home News, UK - The Independent |
Probably in the wrong forum, but a good read nevertheless.:ok:

I can see why a few eccentrics buy airliners due for the crusher and convert them to dwelling properties. Usually only in the USA, not sure it would work in the UK!

Recycling old airliners is quite skilled and labour intensive. It causes minimal pollution and offers good job opportunities. What is needed is a decommissioned airfield with a long runway, and plenty of buildings for storage, located in an area of high unemployment, and an enthusiastic local population. Does anyone know of such a place!

Chateaudun - Google Maps Cahteaudun and Chateauroux seem to be bigger than Kemble. |
This is Chateauroux, where the biggies go to die - 200km to the south of Chateaudun (looks like most of the French Air Force there!)
Chateauroux - Google Maps Cheers :ok: |
