mallorca Son Bonet

Thinking of popping across to Mallorca for the bank holiday weekend.
Anyone been in here recently from outside Spain?
I am interested in customs availability, radio practices etc...
Last time I visited the island was to the big airport (I had no choice as it was a night arrival).

Any info much appreciated,
Thanks,
SB

I looked in to this 3 weeks ago as an alternative in the end I had to use the main airport as normal which is very GA/Business friendly. The issue is Customs And Immigration and non Shengen arrivals. I felt the security on the airfield is not great when I visited recently.

I have been to Son Bonnet on a number of occasions and always found it a delightful experience. It cost me €38 for a 3 day stay the last time, compared to the main airport which cost €180 for the same length of stay.

Customs are possible by arrangement, but I generally stop at Perpignan on the way so am coming from Schengen. Make sure you have all of your and the aircraft documents in order as the Civil Guarda are hot on inspection. I have all mine in a binder with an index and the index has Spanish translations so he can go direct to the page he wants. This strategy means a five minute inspection unlike the guy who came in behind me in a swiss aircraft who chose to argue and was still being inspected when we had fuelled and got a taxi!!

Security is fine, it's like fort knox and you need a pass to get airside but no problem.

They will bring you in across the VOR on the North of the Island and fly you low level along the entire length of the Island on a long final parallel to the main airport arrivals. Very scenic trip!

All in all not a bade airport and far less hassle than the main airport.

Mallorca

Thanks all,
ended up going to LEPA (big airport) again.
Principally due to Schengen rules and wanting to go direct from the UK.

Costs incurred were:
79 Euros handling, 27 Euros landing fee
250L avgas = 500+ Euros
+100 Euros inexplicable surcharges
Total cost 750 Euros.

So...Son Bonet is definitely the budget option.

Value of weekend in Palma - priceless

Bose-X and Scooter Boy: you both give a price at Palma- what aircraft type or weight were you?

Is Palma major GA receptive?

I was in a PA46 Malibu. Went to Son Bonet in the 172.
