GA Accident Biggin Hill (Bromley)
Piper Cherokee down after taking off from Biggin Hill - nothing too serious by the sounds of it (ankle injury to pilot).
Small Plane Crash-Lands In Bromley | LBC |
Not good to hear :ooh:, I supposed more details should be out soon.
Scary as my thread from 2 weeks ago speaks of emergency landing at biggin hill. Could have ended like this or worst. |
The two seater plane came down in a field near Southborough Lane Primary School, Bromley Witnesses said the pilot descended once before rising and coming down again, apparently choosing where to land. Glad the pilot wasn't badly hurt. As with any accident, there but for the grace of God... |
From the heli-teli down link in our control room, it looks as though she had chosen the playing field to land and ran out of grass and ended totalled in the first row of trees. Hems were already on scene below, before Police & trumpton arrived, attending to her about 30m from the aircraft.
Perhaps she should share her next lot of lottery numbers with us.:ok: |
From the radio it would seem she was a "Senior" student, looks like the training paid off - the spokesperson from biggin hill seemed to be happy she had done very well considering..
|
"An Air Accidents Investigation Branch spokeswoman said they would be sending the pilot a letter."
Ahhh... how thoughtful... |
Good to hear the pilot was ok I was 3 miles dead side at this point in my 9th lesson I noticed the police helicopter was arround Biggin aerodrome so could not have been far! Was very scary to hear on the radio.

Wot? No trees to pancake into?
|
No trees but maybe she will be in this forum saying she used an Amy Johnson technique ? :)

I have to admit the BBC's use of a picture of smoking jet wreckage on this article strikes me as a bit scaremongery.
Hope the pilot is soon up and about and back in the air. |
To be honest I thought the picture selected by beeb was incredible insensitve. I'd be curious to know what justification there is for such a gruesome reminder of the relatives of those killed last year, their friends and fellow pilots... not to mention the residents in the area. To compare an incident like that to the one know is sickening in my view.
|
I remember looking at the pic on the BBC website and thinking oh  then reading the small text.... very insensative!
|
I must say I agree, a very insensitive and disgraceful attempt to over-dramaticise a relatively minor incident.
At the very least, there was the attempt to imply that although this was minor this time, could be armageddon next time. |
