Offering flights as raffle prizes
Is there an issue with PPL's offering seats as part of a charity raffle? I have been offered this as a prize for some fund raising but the PPL isn't totally sure about the legalities, i.e. could it be classed as a commercial flight?
Reading through this forum I can't see why as there appears to be plenty of people offering seats in return for cost sharing, is there a difference? Any help much appreciated. Cheers. Boxer42 |
Assuming the flight is going to be conducted by the PPL then it is different from a trial lesson.
However the CAA have provided an exemption to allow such flights subject to certain conditions/limitations. The following AIC describes what is permissable http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/aip/cu...8_W_070_en.pdf |
Cost Sharing
I have some concerns about the advertising of seats on a public site such as this...
http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/1428/summa..._transport.pdf Indicates that for cost sharing (my italics) : No advertising (except within a flying club operating the flight in which all adult persons carried must be a member). The same document covers the various options for charitable/non-commercial and commercial flight. |

This was discussed at length a couple of months ago, have a search for Charity Flight.
AFAIK So long as the pilot does not receive any money for the flight it does not constitute a commercial flight and the pilot must make his contribution to the flight. But I could be very very wrong so I suggest: DO do a search for the other post, it went into it in some detail. Edited to add link to the thread: http://www.pprune.org/private-flying...n-flights.html |
LH - Do you have a link to the advertising/cost sharing thread - haven't been able to find it with the search function.
Thanks, W |
Thanks for all the information, much appreciated. So we could do it as all the money from the raffle would be going to a registered charity, problem is the PPL doesn't meet the PIC criteria. Oh well worth a try.
