paton - Welcome to PPRuNe. I hope it works well for you.

However - we have forums for both Canada and for PPL.

This one is "Professional Training".

I'll give you the opportunity to vote - where do you want this thread?

Canada or Private flying?

"From the Ground Up" is everything you need to know for your PPL (& most of what you need to know for the CPL).

And for the PSTAR (pre-solo exam), go here: Interactive PSTAR

Yup - From the ground up is highly recommended!

Those are the books you'll need, however there are other resources that are highly recommended. You could try the Culhanes manual which is more concise than the FGU and a good reference guide. For practise exams, I highly recommend www.aerotraining.com

If you go to aerotraining, click on the Test Yourself button on the top left corner, join the site (free, and no spam), and do the exams. This was the best help I got when doing my CPL exam.

Good luck!

The above are all great suggestions. I also used the "Canadian Private Pilot Answer Guide": http://aviationworld.net/product.asp?pID=2619&cID=117

I found it very useful to brush up on my knowledge. There are a LOT of sample questions, which is great practice. You can find that book almost everywhere in Canada.

cheers for the help!

Has anyone used, From the Ground Up - Workbook?

For those with a technical background or others who don't need very detailed explanations, there are "Canadian Professional Pilot Studies" and "Canadian Private Pilot Studies" by Phil Croucher, published by electrocution.com, available both on paper and in PDF.
