GA aircraft into Doncaster

Can anyone advise me on the welcome i may (or may not receive) at Doncaster if i drop in there in my pa28, and also the landing fees costs? cheers

julian_storey 27th Oct 2008 21:24

The landing and parking fees are extremely reasonable.

http://www.egcn.co.uk/Index_files/Charges2006.pdf

GA charges are in Schedule 'G'.

The flies in the ointment are that there is a minimum invoice value of £25.00 and that handling is compulsory.

Handling is with Signature who are unlikely to be cheap.

There may be the option of getting handled by a flying school on the airfield (there in in some places - Jersey comes to mind). If that's allowed, it would be cheaper for you.

Thanks for that info Julian, I'll call in at the weekend and have a look around !!

AC-DC 28th Oct 2008 09:31

getting more desp. for revenue perhaps?

I may have a rethink then and try LBA , if nothing else i can practise the old crosswind landings!!

I understand that there is a 1200m (?) grass strip called Finningley (yes, the real name of DSRH Airport) in that area.

Sandtoft is the nearest that has Avgas, as far as I know.

This is all from books preparing for a trip to Yorkshire to fly my Dad as soon as I get my PPL.

Thought About Sherburn?

I presume you have thought about dropping into Sherburn. I think the landing fees are £10 for a single.

I'm currently a member so could be regarded as slightly biased.

The only issue is to be sure to check in with Fenton due to the MATZ and to undertake the standard overhead join following the circuit diagram for noise abatement. All the details are on the website.
Airfield Information

Probably declare your based there now which would make for a short flight :ugh:

It would be more helpful to use the uptodate fees and charges:

Correct ZEROVIZ, i am based there so it would indeed be a short trip. I just like using the larger airfields from time to time for a change. I like humberside and they are very helpfull! But not yet been into Doncaster,Sandtoft is coming on lately in leaps and bounds!! another friendly outfit!

Johnm 30th Oct 2008 08:59

the charges list would seem to imply that for my PA28 the costs would £19,5 +VAT plus whatever signature want to charge unless you stayed overnight.

That compares with €52 for Leipzig overnight stay :-)

If you're broadening your horizons from Sherburn you could go into Netherthorpe where the landing is free and the caf' every bit as good as Sherburn. Sturgate is quite civilised at the weekends too.

If you are going in from the the flying club it's worth checking if Donny bill charges direct to the club, which should avoid the minimum invoice if others are using the facility.

Thanks for those two airfield suggestions, never been to either! keep em coming!!

Pault 30th Oct 2008 20:46

Went there about 3 years ago shortly after it opened. The cost wasn’t outrageous for a PA28 and in the main everyone was very friendly and helpful.

The only problem we had was getting back airside since without a boarding card or passport (ok we were going from Yorkshire to Lancashire (Blackpool)). Waving the keys and pointing to our aircraft cut no ice and we had to get the Head of Security involved to unblock the impasse. We still had to go through full security (had the most through frisking ever, I think they had just finished their training) and had to hand over a small penknife (I guess in case we hijacked ourselves !) although we provided a sae for it's return.

I would still go back if and when the cloud ever clears from the Pennines but would take both my licence and some form of photographic ID (passport or driving licence) and would just be prepared to accept the same rules as any commercial passenger.

Surely you need a visa as well for that trip? :)

Try Rufforth west of York, gliding and motorgliding site £6.00, avgas available, its in Pooleys.

flyingman-of-kent 1st Nov 2008 13:27

Note the minimum charge...

From reading the charges list there is a minimum charge of £25 (probably plus VAT) plus whatever Signature charge for handling.
