Newcastle Airport expansion offers new jobs hope - ChronicleLive

Comprehensive write up by the local press.

I wonder if they will reduce the fee's for GA now then?

Sorry to put a dampener on the general euphoria but I think you'll find Newcastle Airport's conception of "GA" is Gulfstream 550s and Falcon 900s full of footballers wives, image consultants and hedge fund managers, not Geordie from Blaydon in his microlight. I'd be amazed if this turned out to be a good thing for light aviation.

I somewhat have to agree. It is a busy regional airport, however i'm sure they would allow a PA28 etc albeit at a charge.

Yep, will be interesting to see how the flying school may fit into the development plans. Particularly with the opening of the new aviation acadamy next door, and a possible visitor centre in the old terminal/wings bar. Hope that the school is seen as a (relatively small) but very integral part of the development.
