Source for Used Fuel Bowsers?
Hi,
With price of avagas biting hard into A/C ownership, I'm looking to source a good used Avgas/Mogas fuel bowser at sensible money. Has anyone here come across anywhere that sold them in 1000/2000 litre sizes? Be great to get something ex military that would have been well made and minded. Whenever you mention a/c use it always seems to be telephone numbers people think. Sure I'm not the first one to ponder the matter. Any help appreciated!! Thanks Irish Seaplane..... |
Possibly some in Farming or Contractor plant magazines?

Try Witham Specialist Vehicles . One of these would seem to fit the bill.

Good, small 1000 ltr bowsers are like hens teeth unless you buy new.
A lot of helicopter companies use them for away events, you could try some of them and see if any are for sale, though they would generally have been used for AVTUR and I don't know how much of a hassle it would be to convert it across. |
I was going to suggest Witham, but already done.
For a fully bunded bowser, I think Chieftain Trailers do one. May not need to be bunded depending on the storage arrangements. Used ones are fairly rare, as has been said. |
Witham have this via the e-Disposals site. A snip at just under £3K

That unit is the back end of a twin rig used for AVTUR. They are Dumb units ie no pumps, filters, metering or delivery kit.

The following link gives you an idea why the right bowser might cost a bit:
Air Transport - From experience, AVGAS bowser Good luck. tp |
Plenty of cheap trailed diesel bowsers in the farming/contracting world. But ones officially rated for petrol or avgas?? Very rare

Try Flightline equipment in Whitney near Oxford. They have made 1000 Lt bowsers before (my club has one) and may know of where you can get one.

Seems that a small 1000/2000l bowser is as hard to find as the cock that crew......
Flightline have one at 6500stg used, but would sooner spend the money on a panel upgrade for C180. I know the price of steel is mental and they are always in demand. You'd think that some builder here in Ireland who's R44 was repo'd would be glad of a handful of cash. Keep looking, but witham specialsit vehicles only have stock much larger than I'll ever need unless I buy an AN2. TTYL Irish |
they have a portable tanker that can be towed by a car at my gliding club, think its 1000 liters.
Highway tow bunded fuel bowsers |
But note the repeated statement "For use with diesel and gas oil" on the above website.
Probably those bowsers would work fine with petrol/avgas but if an insurance company ever got involved ............ Or the gents applying the "storage of fuel" regulations. And where would you be filling said bowser? The fuel suppliers probably have regs saying "only allowed to deliver into approved containers" etc etc Travelling on the public roads with it? Uh oh. Another set of regs? Ain't life grand in this day and age!:uhoh::uhoh: |
