What was your solo song?

Hello private flyers, seeing how many of my fellow pilots have the same story of having sung or hummed a tune while on their first solo whenever the workload and radio was low... To those of you who did sing or hum something... what was it?? hehe

I hummed ride of the valkryes as I was taking off (Spelling???) and sang a bit of baby got back on the downwind leg hehehehee.

I was singing Iron Maiden - Flight of Icarus... I used to sing quite often when I was going through my first set of solos but nowadays don't as much.

Singing?.....I think I was too busy swearing and trying to avoid making a mess of the seats!

russellmounce 28th Apr 2008 13:22

I remember singing oh what a night on the downwind leg of my 1st solo.

I could not hear anything over the screams.

I believe i can fly . . .

Humaround 28th Apr 2008 13:55

Don't remember what I was singing during my first solo circuit - it didn't really last long enough, but I do remember the 5-hour duration flight for my Silver C Gliding award.

You have to imagine flying solo for 5 hours, but with no engine.

Towards the end I was definitely singing the Nightmare Song from Iolanthe...

Something featuring a Miles Davis trumpet number :E

Didn't sing a song, but for some reason the Slim Pickens bomb rodeo scene from Dr Strangelove came to mind when I was on final - "Yeeehaaaa !!!!!"

Lister Noble 28th Apr 2008 14:14

Didn't sing anything,too busy making sure I
didn't cock it up!
But remember thinking,"I can't believe I'm doing this"
And I still think that everytime I fly,the amazement and joy does not go away.
Lister:):ok:

I still sing it during dodgy cross wind aproaches: To the tune of "Robin Hood"- Feckinell, feckinell feckinfeckinell.

DBisDogOne 28th Apr 2008 16:59

To take my mind off the thought of immiment death, I think it was "There aien't 'alf been some clever bastards" by the late great Ian Dury.

flybymike 28th Apr 2008 17:02

The Funeral March........:uhoh:

Ayrton 28th Apr 2008 17:05

I didn't sing anything on my first solo, but remember an early glider solo where I was laughed at when I landed  Apparently, my version of "Lilly the pink" was well broadcast to the whole of Dover that day!

Me sing:uhoh: I can't hold a tune in a bucket using both hands.

I can remember the amazement that this Robin HR200 could take off, fly a perfect (well almost) circuit and land safely with little old me as its only passenger. Honestly I just sat there.:)

StudentNE 28th Apr 2008 21:05

Ha ha - No singing for me (despite being a musician!), all pretty busy on takeoff and climbing out, but as soon as I got to 1000, and was turning downwind I realised I was really doing this I remember just cheering! Wooooooooooooo hooooooooooooooooo! followed by some pretty blue language and more cheering before downwind checks. Awesome.
