RAF Flypast Next Tuesday over London
 

Hi all,

There's a mention of this in the military forum, but thought that it's worth a post here. Anyway, to mark the 90 yrs next week of the RAF there's a flypast over London. Should be a good sight. Link below

NOTAM J1562 refers: (All times UTC - don't forget the clocks have changed)
Red Arrows + 4 Typhoons; 2 areas of RA(T) 1135 - 1210 & 1150 - 1220, sfc - 2500ft amsl
I'll try to plot the co-ordinates to give a rough idea as I haven't seen a map published.

I've plotted the coords for the first area 1135-1210z here and the second 1150-1220z here.

I think for the second one you plotted easterly longitudes instead of westerly; I made it leaving the Heathrow CTR at Denham going out to Aylesbury

Oops, quite correct, ignore the second one! I'm off for boozy Sunday lunch so goodness knows the results I'd get later.

There's a map on the link showing the central London part.

It also says that they plan to over the London Eye at 1pm sharp.

Guess Denham traffic will be suspended during this time?

Does anyone have any thoughts where the best place to stand to take pictures would be?

I'm thinking Hungerford bridge at the moment...

so how come the CAA allows a bunch of single engine aircraft over central london but if you were to ask to take your own single engine aircraft over a built up area where you couldn't glide clear, they would have a heart attack !

Does the RAF's 90th birthday justify the risk?

and yes....I know the risk is minimal, but in this life one thing is true.....**** happens.

Well I'm sitting here ready for the flypast - coffee in hand - right by Tower Bridge, so I'll let you know if I manage to capture the moment on my camera phone!

I'm no David Bailey mind you......

As Lurking said - if a Hawk loses it's engine at flypast speed, then it can probably gain at least 3000 feet from the zoom (4500 feet or so zoom from 420 knots at low level). That should be enough to position so that the aircraft would land in the Thames at the very least.
