Where is this A/C now?

This is a strange request.

Last week I was remanissing with an old school friend about our childhood and how we used to cycle to Cambridge airport to watch the aircraft come and go. We used to spend hours staring through the fence dreaming about the day we could fly ourselves.

There was one aircraft that we think may have belonged to the Cambridge flying group that looked a bit like a PA38 Tomahawk. It's definately not a Tomahawk because it's canopy was slightly longer, but we can't identify it.

The aircraft was registered something like G-BBZA or G-BBNZ and would have been with the Cambridge Flying Group around the early to mid 90's. If anyone can tell me the aircraft type I would be very grateful!

Have you tried G-INFO? It's the CAA database of all G-registrations:

http://www.caa.co.uk/ginfo

Both of those callsigns are valid but are used for aircraft that don't exactly look like something you describe.

Could this be the aircraft type that you are thinking of?
It is a Varga Katchina.

It was a Fuji FA200 and I believe it was owned by the same guy who also had a Chipmunk there. G-BBZN?

Ooops! Atrocious spelling, sorry!

I guess you're right, it looks nothing like it. But this was 14 years ago and I was only 12.

Could it possibly be a Beechcraft Skipper, has a T-tail and looks very similar

surely not 26th Feb 2008 06:45

If this is a little late I apologise...
GBBZN is still at Cambridge-usually hangared with the Moths of the Flying Group. Still comes out occasionally.
The Chipmunk was written off whilst parked at Duxford during a display, an unfortunate victim of an aerobatic display going tragically wrong.

Ah I remember that - Hoof Proudfoot display pilot of great standing sadly died in a P38 Lightning while doing an aileron roll at fairly low level.

Took out a large number of visiting aircraft parked along the south side if I remember rightly.
