Rules on changing Flying Clubs
 

Should you decide to change flying clubs/schools part way through your PPL what are the rules in regards to transferring student progress reports?

Also if you have sat examinations at one flying club would you need to retake these at another? i.e. what is transferable?

The whole lot: you are entitled to ask for all (or copies of) your entire training records including exam passes.

The exam already taken stands.

There should be no problems geting records transferred. They aren't the property of the school, but yours. You may need to get your new school to put it in writing or do so yourself, but there shouldn't be a problem.

If there is, then kick up a fuss.

Are you moving because of cost or are you unhappy with the training being provided?

If it is because you haven't gone solo yet, then changing schools won't help that and anyway I wouldn't have said you are anything out of the ordinary when it comes to hours taken.

What Cusco says is almost correct but the club you are leaving has a leagal duty to have the records of your training with them on file.

I would expect a club to give you copys of all the documents in question.

The records are the property of the producer who as stated above have a responsibility to retain them for a given period of time. You are entitled to see them and may ask for a copy to be transferred to another school.

You should have a copy of JAR-FCL 02 SRG1105 with the results of the exams you have already passed. If not get the examiner to sign one and take it with you. Your log book will also need to be certified as correct.

I moved schools part way through my ppl (airfield was always waterlogged and plane going tech:bored:)
My school wouldnt give the notes to my new school (probably handnt written any:ugh:) and just signed my log book saying that should do and once youve passed the exams there yours so they transfer over as well, and if you want you can ask your examiner to fill in the exams passed section on your ppl application form saves you having to go back to get them all signed up:}

It’s down to cost. The current club is really friendly and as I put earlier its price is competitive for the area, maybe there is an element of overestimating my abilities. Contrary to how I've come across I do feel that if and when an instructors sends me solo it will be an acknowledgement that I've reached the standard, I'm not trying to expedite that but a little more direction from the FI might have helped.

With this prospect of more hours of circuits I need to be realistic and look at the alternatives, one is another airfield (grass) the break down equates to a lot less and by lowing the landing fees and T&G charges I will get much longer if needed to nail it. But I doubt I will be able to fly as often due to the weather.

The second is to put it on hold and get on the simulators and try again in the summer.

Ideally they should send them to the club, that way they will know they are genuine. At the end of your training, the club has to certify that you have met all the requirements.
