Do Scotland have any Fly-ins in 2008

Been planning a trip to Scotland in August 2008 and looking for a Fly-in either homebuild or microlight to visit while up there.

Any ideas - Perth would be good

Hi,

Strathaven Airfield - www.strathavenairfield.co.uk - (south of Glasgow, east of Prestwick) will be having its annual fly-in/Open Day in conjunction with the Strathaven Balloon Festival - http://www.strathavenballoonfestival.co.uk - on the Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, ie Sunday 24th August, 2008.

All wlecome and no landing fees that weekend. If we do the usual thing, the airfield will be closed between 2pm and 4pm for displays by hovercraft, power kits and radio-controlled aircraft (we had a couple of jets last year! - 2007). Of course, if the weather looks poor, we will change the timetable to avoid people getting stranded!

See you there,

XA

StrathAVEN not StrathALLEN

SF182,

The August fly-in is at Strathaven - not Strathallan!

The Strathallen parachute centre fly-in is June 4th 2008.

For the southerners, Strath is from the Gaelic for valley. So Strathaven is "the valley of the River Avon" - although the airfield is on top of a hill, and the third highest in the UK I think.

Strathallen is on the River Allan - and the Allan Water Cafe in Bridge of Allen has fab fish and chips.

Unfortunately, Strathaven and Strathallen are about 50 miles away from each other!

Very best to all and a happy 2008,

XA

Strathallan Fly In

I can highly recommend the annual Strathallan fly in.

Guaranteed ( almost) fantastic weather - it has been glorious in recent years.

100 % guaranteed beautiful scenery and a warm welcome from everyone.

Very well organised. Nice mix of aircraft, flying displays, parachute displays and food.Dont miss the world famous " big pan doo "........a must & worth queuing for !

Free landing fees.

Well worth planning ahead for.

Mix up.

I'm sorry,

I mixed things up a bit in this post.

I should have spelt out Strathaven .....instead I wrote Strathallan. Both have fly in's but XA is talking about Strathaven. The ballon festival is held there.

I flew in on Wednesday. Looking a lot better now, runway is still a bit bumpy( think it needs rolling) and only £5.00 landing. which includes tea coffee and biscuits.

Be back soon.

Not wanting to pick hairs, but how "bumpy" is "bumpy" ?

Was planning to visit, but mine is retractable and not at all that happy on rough strips ...

FF :ok:

There are planes for a flyin at Wick, but no date announced yet.

Strathallan fly-in June 4th? That's a Wednesday.
The Strathallan fly in is always on a mid week day since they are too busy paradropping on the weekends.

Well worth a visit. My 'co-pilots' trip reports from last years can be read here (with some nice photos)

Perth now provisionally the w/e 20-22 June. FLying display and open day on Sat 21, Fly in over the weekend with barbie fri p.m.

Oldpilot55 17th Mar 2008 22:41

To confuse things even further is the Strathallen fly-in not usually held in the evening? I went to the first one and it was the evening but that was a few years back. There was an important message to the assembled hordes (over 100 visitors) - please don't bust the drop zone.

The food and the atmosphere was superb.

Scottishflyer182 18th Mar 2008 17:34

How bumpy is bumpy.

hi Fully flapped ,

I flew a 182 in couple of weeks ago.

Generally it was okay but towards the west end of the runway it does get little bumpy.

Perth and Fife both the w/e of Jun 21

perhaps not a bad thing...come to both. Two fly ins with one weekend!
:ok:

captainjim600 18th Mar 2008 21:37

I can advise the Strathallan fly in is held in the evening. However I would add that it is worth arriving early as I arrived last year at 19:00 and had missed much of the flying displays and arrivals by lots of the rare aircraft.

I would recommend arriving in the afternoon if at all possible.

Say again s l o w l y 18th Mar 2008 21:50

The strathallan fly-in is always worth going to.

There seems to be a lot of work going into the Perth open day, so hopefully it should be good.
