PPL training at uni.
 

Hi everybody
im 17 and have just applied for a BENG in aeronautical engineering at a few universities. It states that thought the year you will have the oppertunity to fly and by the end of the seccond year you will have flown solo and have the PPL.

is this a good idea or not. Will i have to pay for the PPL training onto of student fees?

I definately know that i want to fly after uni anybody got an ideas or advice to help me?

Yer mate you gotta pay for your ppl, but ask the uni if they offer a bursary. I got 1500 towards my ppl from uni. My brother is at sheffield doing aerospace engineering, i think he only gets nppl. If ya got anymore questions PM me,:ok:

I've just recently graduated from one of the said courses. Take a good look into how the flying is arranged. It does not normally count for any university credit. Also take a look at the times of year you will be flying and how often. We flew mainly in winter (Crap weather) Nobody on my course finished during the allocated time and had to folk up lots of extra cash and spend holidays trying to finish their PPL well into their 3rd year with mountains of work on top to do.

On the plus, it was an awesome experience and the hard work people put in trying to keep it all in line was certainly rewarded with good degrees and the ability to take your mates for a ride in a diddy plane, That is if you had any cash left from paying for everything!!!!!!

did you find the maths hard (my weak point but i am willing to work especilly hard to get the knowlege) and do you feel that it is worth it?

Aviation Techology with Pilot Studies at Leeds. Can get £1500 towards your ppl and comprises 40 credits of the 120 credits in the second year. An easy way to boost your grade if your not so good at maths.

What maths exactly? That directly to do with PPL study? It's not in the slightest bit difficult, to be honest. Speed Time Distance calculations and half decent mental gymnastics for some arithmetic is all you'll need.

The maths involved with the degree study, especially when it's an Eng, will be considerable. If you have A-level maths then you shouldn't find it difficult, if you don't I expect you will need to do a compulsory foundation module in year 1, if they allow you to start without it at all.
