I just had my mobile nicked out of my car, and hadn't backed up the sim card, so I've lost about 100 phone numbers.:ugh:(Where's the fist emoticon?)
SO: PLEASE BACK UP YOUR SIM CARDS EVERYONE!

If we had the death penalty, we'd have a lot fewer thieves about the place. We'd also solve the prison overpopulation crisis too.

I'm still suprised that anybody actually steals these things though ? I wouldn't want to risk my life on something that's been stolen, and god knows what's happened to it until it was fitted in my plane.

sorry to hear about this, u'd think aviators would have more respect for others property, I know its a bit like shutting the door after the horse has bolted, however either post code or put your a/c number on removeable items, headsets / gps etc etc, permanent markers, easy to use

twas done I believe but as per , these are only ever useful if the property is recorvered. One would like to hope it was not fellow aviators , local ,as Sam put it salford scallies might be acceptable but to think it was a fellow pilot is just horrid

I highly doubt it would be another pilot. As i said earlier proberly a bunch of kids hoping to get a bit of money by selling it on :(

Here is the thing why not put gps trackers in a gps unit as that would mean that you could get them back and it wouldnt mean much more engineering.

obvious place to sell these things is ebay, not a very big market for an aviation database Garmin 296 so the unfortunate owner should check serial numbers from the box and watch for it.

I'd like to get my hands on the b***dy diddies that have had the wheels off my glider trailer - it's a big trailer so £160 to replace the wheels and £40 for locking wheel nuts.

I think the approach taken in the days my grandfather was a young copper, early in the last centrury, should be re-introduced (they involved bales of straw under caravans).

My bro leaves his MX-5 unlocked (with nothing in it) in his driveway because he's already had one roof slashed by idiots after the $5 of cash in the ashtray.

It is true , the same line of thinking as leaving your house unlocked with your audi tt on the drive , you might as well let them walk inand take the keys as smash your door down and come in screaming and yelling with baseball bats .

Sam unfortunately I doubt it was local kids ,Thieves who specialise in taking sat navs know exactly what they are taking and probably know more about the unit than the user . This was unfortunatley probably taken by a fellow aviator which again is a disgrace .
A sat nav from a car is someting that can be sold for a tenner in pub a Garmin 296 is no use to you average scrote in the street . Therefore this would have been nicked by someone who wished to use it or someone who knew exactly who to sell it to , in this case an aviator .
Just to put you in the picture the going prices on the street for stolen goods is as follows
Mountain Bike 20 quid , suspended mountain bike 30 quid
Car stereo 10 or less
sat navs for cars 10 quid
Audi TT thief gets a grand per car if nicked with keys nowadays they wont steal them without
Garmin 296 thief would probably have asked for a about 20-30 quid depneding on who had asked him to get it .
So if we point out a Bag of heroin is 10 quid and the average user needs 3 bags per day minimum youcan see why the crime rate is so high . This is why we have invested heavily in cowardly support officers , ooops sorry they dont actually assist in solving vehicle crime do they , my mistake , come the revolution
