Happened at around 1615. The one survivor who was seriously injured was airlifted to The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. The Police Service were on the scene near enough immediatley flying from the nearby Stapleford Airfield. Lots of black smoke and a large fire followed the crash with the remains of the aircraft minimal. I believe the AAIB are on scene now.

Light aircraft down Essex etc

Sadly this is another accident.

Jamie-Southend 27th Aug 2007 20:13

Anyone know any further details on this ?

rossym 27th Aug 2007 20:16

There's a bit (not much) info in the 'Private Flying' forum about this incident - seems details are a bit thin on the ground at the moment.

Condolences to the family though - such a tragic incident.

Regards,
Ross

I knew this pilot. Such a terrible event, and for his daughter to be lost as well is beyond words. I was going to take my kids up this week before they go back to school. They say life must go on, but something like this stops you in your tracks and makes you wonder if the "risk" is worth taking. But then, would we ever leave the house if we thought like that?

A very experienced pilot taking the family out. What a tragic ending.

RIP.

Terrible weekend tragedy - 2 separate crashes, 4 people dead. Condolences to the bereaved.

Rattle,

Do you know the aircraft type in the Essex crash? Just reported as "4-seater" in the news.

So so Sad.
I think I may have got a photo of this plane earlier on Monday afternoon. I can't be sure that it's the same one but G-INFO only lists one Bolkow 207 which is the one I've got a photo of.
DeepC

Edit: Evidence on the Web suggests that the 207 involved in the crash was not UK registered so not the one in my photo.

My understanding is that it was on the German register and had spent a while at Old Buckenham in the not too distant past.

Good grief. How absolutely terrible for her. I don't know her well but we have had several chats about aerobatting the Bolkow.

Hi Auster Fan

There was a red and cream Bolkow at Old Buck on Saturday, german registered, but I can't remember the reg exactly. Could be coincidence of course.

Auster Fan 5th Sep 2007 08:01

It wasn't the same one. I was talking to the owner of the Bolkow at Old Buck on Saturday. He was enquiring after the reg of the one that crashed as there are not that many Bolkow 207s around and even less on the German register based in this country. Very sad business.
