Help! Need cheap hour building
 

Anyone know who is willing to hire out their a/c for hour building (charging in the region of £60-70ph incl).

Looks like im being messed around by a US school, so having to see what is available in the UK.

Any help appreciated.

..don't we all! I know BCT Aviation at Kemble used to do a cheap deal on Cessna 150 hours; IIRC it was something like £2000 for 50 hrs, giving a very cheap rate of 40 pph; but I don't know if they still do that.

I suspect for that kind of money an old C-150 or similar is all you'll get; although I stand by to be proven wrong hopefully - cheaper hourbuilding is always good!

Incidentally I'm doing my hours right now; at Old Sarum, and with a combination of using the frequent flyer hours scheme and mixing Supercub/Warrior/Arrow flights, my total hours works out on average something like 90 pph.

Why not just buy (or club together with a couple of other hourbuilders and buy) a cheap PFA single-seater and hourbuild in that?

August's PFA classifieds shows either a new Evans VP1 or a lowish hours Rans S5 for £3,500; let's say 2 of you buy it, park it at a friendly farmstrip (I can show you one that'd have it for £30/month + £50pa membership), put 100 hours on it each over the year, then sell it for £2000 (which would be a bargain for somebody so you'd get rid of it quickly), add in about £250 insurance, fuel about £15/hr, another £5/hr to cover odds and ends and...

I reckon you'd get your 100 hours of hourbuilding £41/hr which would go down to £31/hr once you'd sold the aeroplane to the next hourbuilder.

I have the very aircraft avalble for you right now.

It is a C152 not as cheap as some but you won't spend your time sitting in a death trap that smells like the carpet is hoasting some sort of pond life.

If your based in the north, I can get you one of the best C152 around for £70 per month and £45per hour wet.

Phoenix at Netherthorpe - C150 aerobats at £75ph - all well maintained, newly resprayed etc and maintained on site.

Buy one in the USA if you are there.

I saw a C150 aerobat for sale for $12,000 at Phoenix a while back. Old boy who owned it had just died and they were trying to get rid of it as part of the will. Looked in good nick too. Then when you are finished with it, sell it on for about the same money.

In a similar position myself but based in the southeast (Kent) have tried Headcorn, Lydd, Manston but hire rates for a 150 all around the £100 mark.

Any guidance on cheap local hire rate greatly appriciated ideally < £70.

I'd appreciate any info on cheap hire rates around the Southampton region.

As an aside it may be worth suggesting to 'The Powers That Be' to have a sub forum where folks can post up their cheapest local hire rates.

something akin to www.petrolprices.com where there is a database of petrol prices. All you do is pop in your postcade and hey presto, the cheapest fuel prices arrive on your screen as if by magic.

Creating a database of hourly rates should be simple enough. In fact I'd be surprised if it doesnt exist already......

A thread about fuel prices has been done here before but no-one updated it. It just vanished after a week or so.

There is not a lot one can do about it if the forum users do not add to the thread on a regular basis.

I imagine the same would apply to a hire rates thread.

Being pedantic for a moment, when I lived there, Southampton was a city rather than a region.

Being more helpful, almost certainly the best place for you will be Popham. The best bet is to either talk to Irv, look at his website, or go up there and peruse the noticeboards.

Good spot, although I was using 'region' in the sense of area/vicinity of etc...

I.e in the region of £250. Now no-one's suggesting £250 is a region in the UK or, indeed, anywhere else :p:p:p

Listen to this i will only post it once.
If its hours you want then there is hope.
I know someone who is selling his VP1 (PAUSE FOR LAUGHS AND RIDICULE)
The flying plank will give you considerable value for money
very cheap to buy
very cheap to run
very slow (so you do not have to venture too far away for those hours)
Character building (as you defend the beast in airfield cafes)
Great fun as you watch the world unfold a few hundred feet below.
Sell when you are finished with it,
and prob get your money back.
Do the round of available strips,and learn about real flying (for free).
Once you have the hours you can soon check out again on ailerons,as the ones on the plank are only for show.

I would aslo suggest a turb,but you get 3 vpi's for a turb!!

Hi XL319, so you're in the north-east. So was I once, and it's God's own country - boy, do I miss big skies, Newcastle Exhibition and Brown Ale!

However, I'm now in the south-east where, for me, the Tiger Club rules. So this may be of use to someone else attracted to this thread: as a member of the Tiger Club & after the appropriate checkouts you get to fly their Turbs for £52/hr. :ok:

I know of a share in an Evans VP-1 that is for sale for £550 at Breighton. £10-12 an hour wet to fly- doesn't get any cheaper than that!! PM me if you would like some more information.
