Auster Down Last Week?
Heard a distrubing report last night that the only Mk 11 Auster ever made had a mishap last week. Anyone know any details? Hope all on board were OK

Winco,
Yes, the Mk 11 was involved in an accident last week. I've not seen it, but from what I know, the aircraft is in a bad way. The good news is that they all got out of it alive (if a little shaken) The accident happened on landing. From what i understand, the pilot elected to go aground and didn't mange to clear the trees :-( Very sad. |
Thank you Grob Driver,
Glad to hear no casualties. |
That's a real shame, but glad everyone ok.
Do you know, was it Charles flying with Peter as passenger? Regards FF http://www.airclark.plus.com/Aust4.jpg |
FF,
No, it wasn't Peter & Charles in the aircraft. Peter sold the Mk11 a few weeks / a month ago. It was the new owner and (as far as I understand), his two daughters. I just happy to be able to tell you that they all lived to tell their story. Regards Grob driver |
Thanks for the reply and no matter the aircraft, just good news that they all walked away safely.

Sad to hear about the accident and so glad that all escaped without serious injury.
From the environmental angle those members of the Airfield Environment Federation that complain about aircraft noise will not be sorry at the demise of, perhaps, the most environmentally unfriendly aircraft ever to be made in the UK. This apart from the Spey engined BAC 1-11. In the AOP role the Mark 11 (or E3) would have totally lacked any stealth capability - the opposition would have heard it 10 miles away on takeoff. We shall not hear her like again.................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers, Trapper 69  |
Indeed, WR, there have been postulations to that effect already. All depends what state the fuselage is in apparently.

for god sake just dont let Mr Baker have it. All he seems to do is collect them to gather duct, ala agricola.
How is Peter these days. Last time I saw him he looked like death warmed up. Always used to the life and soul when flying the '11 |
Peter is in fine form, I was with him last night at a strut meeting (PFA).

Long live the Mk 11!
My favourite landrover aeroplane. Nice to fly in too. KZ8 |
