RansMail
Hi all. I have been asked to post this. The original poster had posted yesterday but the thread has gone missing so here it is.........
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Microlight Single seat Rans S4 & S5 group for all users or would be flyers. If you are thinking of a light safe and proven Fun to Fly real 3 axis a/c, the microlight PFA Permit Rans S4 [tail wheel] or S5 [tricycle] could be just the solution. This lesser known model from 10 to 15 years ago has proven its utility & is still supported by Rans USA origin for spares. With the virtually bomb proof Rotax 447 up front one can have lots of economical time aloft. Long if modest speed flights are quite feasible e.g. Sussex to Devon non stop, whilst landing speeds and distances are amazingly short, so any reasonable field is possible. They have an excellent rate of climb & my average consumption is under 2 gph mogas & airspeed ~55 mph. I bought one 3 years ago and it's become the answer to nearly all my needs. Anyone is welcome to join a free & informal monthly news e-mail group whether you already have a Rans flying, or on rebuild, or who wish to see if this marque is for you. E-mail me:- Mikehallam at btinternet dot com Regards, Mike |
Inexpensive Plane Ownership - Why Not ? Pilot DAR |
“aviation for sure, you get what you pay for. The difference being that in aviation you really want what you've paid for!.”
This has got to be one of the most ridicules statements ever made. In aviation you can spend a fortune and end up less safe than if you had not spent any money at all. Having reduced my annual spend on aircraft ownership by 2/3 and increased my safety factor significantly I am a big believer in Inexpensive Plane Ownership. The more a pilot is involved and understands the less he will pay and the more he will get. Building and flying a Rans is one way of doing this, as is the rapidly increasing number of home built VLA’s which are flooding onto the register. Rod1 |

It's not just about inexpensive, to me it's more about involvement, satisfaction and fulfillment Thanks in advance, RX |
Rans s-5
does anyone fly a rans s-5? if so can someone tell me about their charactoristics? i recently purchased one and have yet to fly it.
thank you in advance david |
David,
If you send me a PM to the address, I'll try to help. I presume you've got the address of the owner who had it for some time before you, guessing it used to be based at Maypole in Kent ? Mike. mikehallam@btinternet dot com |
HA HA !....an observant pilot would have noticed the respondent was based in "Tn"....sounds like "Tenissee " to me!....certainly not Kent!
(unless that's "kentucky" ;) |
Thanks for that touch of reality. I'm obviously more used to replying to the LAA & BMAA forums !
I do know my bro missed out on one S5 in the UK & I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Still if the writer doesn't get USA replies we UK gang can still help. Mike. |
Do I take it you are a RANS "dealer" then? Can you get me one?
|
If you want the Rans dealer then you need to go to Dave A at Sk****ft, Mike H is an enthusiastic Rans owner who produces a free monthly newsletter for interested parties. The newsletter has articles on maintenance, hangar construction, fly-ins, operating tips and anything else that may affect the owners of these fine sport aircraft.
|
MH is a very enthusiastic amateur - certainly not one of the also-Rans :E

Would hours in the Rans S19 count towards further licenses?

p.s. Mike, it's a Typhoon, not a Tornado
:ok: |
Sorry,
And Thanks for taking the trouble to feed that back. I knew it began with a T ! Yet another correction to issue next month - my boss will doubtless give me a rap over the knuckles ! mike hallam |

Mike,
I can't be repeating it every month but your newsletter was received here in good order and much appreciated, as always. Keep up the good work! If you would like some news about the tailwheel S6 registered OO-C06 or its neighbour OO-F63 I could perhaps help. |
Yes Please, Jan,
The 'Continent' needs more representation, I appreciate & look forwards to the results of your kind offer. [BTW. Today a Netherlands Emeraude flyer came here - & back - for the day by BMW to collect my Potez engines, but not really Ransmail copy !]. mike hallam. |
August 2015 RansMail, #170, covering general microlight & Rans light flying & has just been e-mailed out to all ~500 listed readers.
