Yes, 36 in Canada, most towing gliders. The Air Cadets have a number of them. Check national registries for Cessna 305A and 305C.

If I remember correctly there is one based down in the South West - possibly Dunkeswell or Exeter. It was around when I was doing some training at Dunkeswell earlier on in the year (August / September time)..

We have one at my base airstrip. It is ex Vietnam war spotter.

Following a trip there during the summer, I think it lives at Belle Vue. Gorgeous aircraft.

When I worked with the Thai Army in III Corps in Vietnam, we had 0-1Gs with the constant speed prop as well as a bunch of Cessna 0-2s. We had maybe 7 Thai pilots we worked with. Later when I rotated to Thailand for two tours in the tanker, I visited the small Thai airfield near U-Tapao.
Are you flying now out of Kahn Kaen? What type aircraft are there?

Oh, and a fully restored 0-1 can run you over $100,000...

Khon Kaen is ripe for GA but at the moment only a government training school.

U-Tapao is a major airfield.

I flew out of a field called Long Thanh North with the Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force (RTAVF) and the Black Panther Division. Our main base was Bearcat, about 20 miles east of Saigon and Bien Hoa on the way to Vung Tao. I tried to avoid Tan Son Nhut as much as possible. Too much traffic and too many guys who thought they were still stateside.
Our area was a bit odd in that we had Thais, New Zealanders and Aussies all quite close. This, at times, created siginificant problems in getting clearance to fire on targets.
I did not fly with the Ravens but had a chance. When they were recruiting, they told us that many Ravens were being shot down, not many were being rescued. The Raven slot, for many reasons, was not a career advancing move. Exciting, yes. Good for longevity, no.
I keep trying to find some buddies to visit Thailand and Vietnam. I hope to make it back in 07. I have used Google Earth to visit the area I flew in. No date on the satellite shot but my field is now derelict except for the parade field which seems still intact. (???) Oddly enough, when I Googled Bien Hoa, it was mostly empty except for a Su-27 taxiing out... Odd.. the Vietnamese flew out of that field, the Japanese in WWII, the French in the 50s, the US in the 60s and now the runway is being used by a Russian.. interesting.

What did you fly wileydog? Did you get to fly the U17 in southern Vietnam?
I guess you must have got up to Nha Trang.
Vietnam has changed a lot and the war was a long time ago.
Many ex USAF now live in SE Asia with their Thai/Cambodia/Vietnamese wives.

If I remember rightly there were a few of those for sale at Oshkosh this year, although I can't remember the money being asked for them.

I flew Cessna 02As as a FAC in Vietnam. One full tour and then I was 'exiled' into SAC in KC-135s although I had volunteered for a second tour in fighters or OV-10s. I then did 2 more short tours out of U-Tapao in the tanker in 71 and 72.

And yes, IT has changed a lot but then we all have. It was a long time ago...

I enjoyed being with the Thai people and especially enjoyed the food. We spent some time up at Pattaya Beach. At that time, there were maybe 3 hotels. Oddly enough, I still have two pair of very fine hand made boots I got in Pattaya.
