Mortgage cover for pilots
 

I've just changed mortgages & am trying to get motgage cover. A well known insurer want to raise my monthly payment from £15 to £86 (the dirty ground-hugging robbing b~~~~~~~s!!!)

Is this normally covered through aircraft/ flying insurance?

Are there any insurers that are a bit more aviation friendly?

I tried telling them that I'm more likely to die in my kitchen etc but they like to call it a hazardous pursuit. I also told them that I don't pursue hazards. All to no avail!

My mortgage insurance provider never loads my premiums - never has done, even when I was an MoD (PE) helicopter flight test observer engaged in 'high risk' trials.
Just remortgaged, did yet another aviation questionaire, still not loaded the premiums.
I imagine it depends on experience, qualifications, activity, etc. I declared 100 hours per annum with a quarter of that aerobatics.

When I began my PPL training earlier this year,I checked my life cover with my mortgage provider (mortgage/insurance co are one and the same as I figure that I might avoid a pi:mad: ing match between 2 independent companies in the event of a claim).They said that as I was already on board there would be nil effect on my cover/premiums.If I was taking out a new mortgage though,they would not insure me at all.
All a bit strange as when I raced motorcycles they were not concerned.Does make you wonder if the highly skilled actuaries really research thoroughly all the data available to them.

I'd like a PM on this off somebody too. Been applying for life cover (of late) and PPL aviation is a specific extra.

I'll try and make this a little more public without advertising. There is an insurance broker that advertises in the pages of all the main mags, small advert though, who deal with one of the UK's top insurance companies. This insurance company has been persuaded that the journey to the airfield is 10 times more damngerous than the flying itself, and therefore don't load for private pilots. In addition thier premiums are a good price to start with!

At the time the company I WAS with wanted a 150% loading.

It depends whether the applicant is a student or instructor. I have pm the thread starter, and will do the same this evening to others.
I was not loaded as a student, and now ppl.(and now in an extended age period!!):oh:
It is also noteworthy to use whole life or term insurance which is cheaper, than a mortgage based product. Web searches with a follow up call can also assist.
