Socata TB10 + TB20 - what they like?
Just wondering what the above mentioned aircraft are like to fly. Are they mainly just group share operated aircraft?
and possibly mention anywhere they are for hire? |
Have you looked at the FAST club at Exeter?

TB10 I have never flown but been in one. A good plane for a PA28 type of mission (a few hundred nm or less) but much more comfy and generally nicer all round. Economy (MPG) and runway lengths comparable to a PA28. I looked at some a few years ago and a good specimen with reasonable IFR (but not serious airways flight) avionics can be had for about £60k.
TB20 I have 600hrs in so know it well. A super long distance European VFR and IFR tourer, OK for 800nm legs at anything up to FL180 (oxygen permitting) with an alternate plus a couple of hours' reserve. OK for grass over 700m or tarmac over 500m (sea level). Economy (MPG) similar to the best an SR22 can achieve; 10.5GPH @ 138 kt IAS at about 60% power. One of the few tourers which can carry 3 adults and full fuel; has a generous W&B envelope. Like the TB10, a classy plane which is a cut above all the 1950s spamcan types. A good IFR specimen can be had for £130k (year 2001 onwards i.e. GT model) and an old dog can be had for £90k or less. Both are easy to fly with no quirky behaviour. I'd buy a TB20 today, over an SR22 or a Diamond. |
